How does the GSL affect me?

I would not write out 3PP doing 3.X stuff just yet. Look at Mutants and Masterminds, it survives just fine on its own, with no need of support from "standard" 3.e stuff. I am sure that the current 3.x field WILL shrink, that is just how the market works. But a not insignificant number of people are either NOT switching to 4e for whatever reason, or, like me, are playing both 4e and older versions of the game.
As I said earlier, just because lots of people bought the initial runs of 4e does not mean it has succeeded or has more players. It just means people want to check out the new version. We won't really know how successful it is for months yet, when people have had a chance to play some, and the new books are released. Then we can see if the same sales figures are sustained or not.

But the name of this thread is "How does the GSL affect me?" not " Let's speculate on how the GSL will affect RPG publishers."

But that is exactly what you are doing. You are speculating that the GSL will lead 3pp to stay with 3e and therefore be good for you. My only point is that might not exactly be as good as you think it will be. Really nobody knows what the numbers are going to be for those staying with 3e and how well suported it will really be. I guess I am just not as optimistic as you are. These companies weren't exactly making a ton of money during 3e's height. With a smaller base of customers it will be even more difficult.
