Burning Questions: What's the Worst Thing a DM Can Do?

In this column, we take common D & D questions posed on Quora and attempt to answer them in a friendly, practical and informative way. Today's question: “As a D & D player, what is the worst thing your DM could do to take the fun out of playing?” Pictured sourced from Pixabay I regularly...

    Cracking Open Privateer Press' MiniCrate

I love miniatures. Depending on one's style of play, miniatures can serve an important in-game function or simply be used as a stand-in for some other piece. Some gamers simply paint minis for the joy of the process. The MiniCrate from Privateer Press certainly goes a long way to appeal to the...

    Filled with Dice Envy

I used to subscribe to this box. While I loved my metal dice, I kept receiving the exact same set for 3 months, so I cancelled. It was a great value when it was more varied. Nice review!

    Choose Your Own D&D Adventure!

They resurrected Endless Quest. Fantastic! I still have (and occasionally play) my old Endless Quest and Fighting Fantasy game books.

    WizKids Previews New Mini Sets

The spells look useful, but I'm always a bit on the fence about these. On one hand, I prefer to know precisely which minis I'm buying and I prefer to paint them myself. Nolzur's line is great for that. On the other, randomization offers encounter building opportunities and a way to grab more...

Adventures in Dystopia: Palladium’s After the Bomb 2E

I'd say this aligns with my definition of "long term game."

Adventures in Dystopia: Palladium’s After the Bomb 2E

I find it difficult, but not impossible to run a long term Palladium campaign. I will say in my experience, TMNT always works best as either episodic missions or one-off games. It also highly depends on the group.

Adventures in Dystopia: Palladium’s After the Bomb 2E

One of the things I love about some of the older Palladium books is the Artwork. The cover here is a personal favorite.

Adventures in Dystopia: Palladium’s After the Bomb 2E

I would say this qualifies under my definition of long running, especially for TMNT!

Adventures in Dystopia: Palladium’s After the Bomb 2E

Following my previous adventure with the original After the Bomb, I decided to check out the second edition of the game. It’s interesting and fun, but probably not something I would play as an extended campaign—though it certainly has that kind of potential. However, there are so many more...

    White Dwarf Reflections #1

Greetings, fair reader, and welcome to a brand-new science fiction and fantasy role-playing magazine, White Dwarf. In the pages of this tome, you’ll find reviews, how to play Dungeons & Dragons competitively and what really makes a monster evil. Opening the Dusty, Old Tome The first issue of...

I love This idea. I'll check it out and report back!

The Castlevania Chronicles – D&D Edition

Lately, I’ve been playing through all of the old Castlevania video games and began seriously considering crafting a homebrew version of original NES game for my next Dungeons & Dragons campaign. As I began thinking about what I’d like to incorporate into a homebrew version of Castlevania, my...

Take An Adventure In Dystopia With West End Game's Original Paranoia

Today we're going to get a little paranoid with the West End Games original edition of Paranoia. I've always been a Dungeons & Dragons player, and because of that I did not grow up playing Paranoia. In fact, I have only recently played it with a group of relatively newer RPG players. This...

Take An Adventure In Dystopia With Palladium's Original After The Bomb

The inaugural scenario in Palladium’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures has two possible outcomes: rescuing a military installation from those lovable, cuddly, psychopathic, psionic miscreants, the Terror Bears or annihilating 75% of the country in a sudden launch of the nuclear...

    Meet the Real James Halliday

Cline based Halliday on Willy Wonka, only with video games and 80s pop culture instead of chocolate, according to an interview with Audible when "Armada" came out. The interview was part of the audio book release. The connection between Garriott is an interesting idea and I enjoyed the piece.I...

D&D In Ready Player One? (SPOILERS)

I was pleasantly surprised by that. Interesting way to do flic-syncs in the film. I enjoyed the car race. It was fun and there were plenty of D & D references throughout. I'm certain I missed a few, though. I loved the film and enjoyed how it differed from the book but maintained the spirit...

D&D In Ready Player One? (SPOILERS)

FWIW, Cline rewrote the gates for the film version and states in a recent Wired interview that Tomb of Horrors is not one of the challenges. Instead, there's a car race with sci fi and movie cars and something involving an 80s horror film. My money is on Nightmare on Elm Street.
