Vow of Poverty and Polymorph.... am I being too much of an ass?

I am in favor of the con change personally.... watching a druid between all their buffs and spells out preform a fighter and end up with more hit points... gaining 100+ hit points because of a spell like that, seem rather overpowered to me.

Vow of Poverty and Polymorph.... am I being too much of an ass?

To me, that gets into the kind of meta conversation that really isn't covered in DnD. Example- you cast bite of the werebear on a wolf. It now has 2 claw attacks. But... how? It really doesn't make sense, it didn't change the shoulder joints and it doesn't allow the canine to stand on it's hind...

Vow of Poverty and Polymorph.... am I being too much of an ass?

Actually, I didn't allow it before. Last night was the first he's ever used polymorph, being a wildshape druid. It all started because he was adding con bonus to his hit points and I said you can't do that, which started 30 minutes plus of..... intense discussions. But, having had a few drinks...

Vow of Poverty and Polymorph.... am I being too much of an ass?

Polymorph states: ....The target loses all of the special abilities it has in its normal form.... Almost all (or all) of the things gained from Vow of Poverty are Special Abilities.... AC Bonus (Su) Endure Elements (Ex) Exalted Strike (Su) Sustenance (Ex) Deflection (Su) Resistance (Ex)...

BBEG Giant Cleric (then next a Wizard)

Quasi-deity (divine rank 0) : maximum hit points per hit dice, speed increased to 60 ft, natural armor +13, deflection bonus to AC equal to her Charisma bonus, divine synergy (+2 bonus per 20 ranks in a skill), immune to polymorphing, petrification, and any other attack that alters her form...

Seeking advice on a conversion - Bear to Awakened NPC

First off, I hate the awaken spell in general. Looking at the black bear in the MM 3d8+6 HP, stats of 19/13/15/2/12/6...with awaken, you get 3d6 intel, 2HD and 1d3 charisma. It's almost as if awakening is a hindrance. Being 3HD and having +2 BAB, it looks like it is using the rogue/monk/ect...

BBEG Giant Cleric (then next a Wizard)

So, I am making the next BBEG for my players to overcome. The premise of the next part of the campaign is an encounter with giants of the Norse. I took what I found in Deities and Demi-Gods, which was woefully inept (imo) and used the leveling up monster rules, things I found on the SRD and...

Is there a spell that can be used to take photographs?

I'll have to go upstairs and dig in my notes, but I made a spell for painting. It came out a conversation about using the various stone shape spells to create statues and I was of the opinion that a person unskilled in sculpture wouldn't have that good of command or spacial awareness to make a...

Do creatures in your games take actions according to their mental stats?

I try to... creatures like orcs, goblins aren't usually very tactically sound, where as Drow are like Black Ops teams. Anytime the players come up with something against a super intelligent BBEG, if I consider it plausible, I act as if he had the answer for what devised. I also try to keep in...

How strong to battle the Gods?

So, this is what I starting out with (adopted from here http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/giant.htm ): +18 Strength -2 Dexterity +10 Constitution, +4 Wisdom. Large size. -1 penalty to Armor Class, -1 penalty on attack rolls, -4 penalty on Hide checks, +4 bonus on grapple checks, lifting...

Why would a dragon NOT take Antimagic field?

That really depends... and it isn't always useless. The effect is suppressed, so once out of the field, it would take effect. Also, there are ways to cast things inside an AFM.

How to make a capable druid?

Vow of Poverty, Wild Shape. Buff. Take a level of Monk so you can add Wis bonus to your already abusive AC. Avoid anti-magic fields.

Question on errata and specifically Nature's Favor

Very true.... But when you take a druid's animal companion and start adding up all these buffs, or the druid them self in wildshape- luck, enhancement, morale, untyped, ect... it starts adding up and gets to be a little silly. Then again, for the better part of a year he was using BAB, giving...

Question on errata and specifically Nature's Favor

Yeah, that takes it back up to +5 max and makes it a swift action. I just compare it to divine favor, and figured they would be the same spell, just one for regular weapons the other for natural weapons. fwiw, I am the DM... have a druid running wild shape / vow of poverty cheese ... and it...

Question on errata and specifically Nature's Favor

Nature's Favor came out, was errata'ed, then was released again in another book, without much change from the original released pre-errata spell. Which should/do you use?

How strong to battle the Gods?

Thanks for the tip... I finally got a chance to check it out, and there is even an example of the frost/fire giants in there (in the text they say the giants can be divine rank 0 to 5). In the examples, they are rank 0. Frost giants are level 20 barbarians and the Fire giants are level 20...

Why would a dragon NOT take Antimagic field?

The answer for that is the slots themselves. I forget off the top of my head where I read this- but a 1 foot square hole in a wall (or whatever is impeding the AMF) will allow it to continue past. So, if it was a few small arrow slits.... I have used two different version of AMF with dragons...

Why would a dragon NOT take Antimagic field?

Just to expand Line of EffectA line of effect is a straight, unblocked path that indicates what a spell can affect. A line of effect is canceled by a solid barrier. It’s like line of sight for ranged weapons, except that it’s not blocked by fog, darkness, and other factors that limit normal...

Why would a dragon NOT take Antimagic field?

Depending on what you allow and don't.... there is a spell that allows for casting inside anti magic. I believe it's called Invoke Magic (9th level spell). Also something to keep in mind is that artifacts are not affected by anti magic. (I'd guess a party of 25th level adventurers might have some)
