Martial Exploits - Trip, Disarm, and Sunder

You could make Disarm conditional on the target being bloodied.

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

Dang it, that was the part I was going to add to my NPC. Broken huh? I'm such an amateur.

Expanding Roles - was Dropping Roles

The solutuion to the Fighter "problem" I had (and thus really questioned roles), has been mostly solved by Mongoose's Quint Fighter. I still think it would be kind of cool to have some Non-class specific Power Source powers. Ex. Back Swing With a mighty heave you pull your weapon back across...

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

I am no longer in Santa Monica, now in Pennsyvania - I assume you are no longer in Moutlake Terrace, WA.... I think we both might need to update our profiles :)

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

I guess maybe the disconnect here is that I don't want to have a preconcieved outcome to what an NPC does. If the Locksmith does or doesn't accomplish what he is tasked, the PCs have to deal with. Let the dice decide. If they confront him (which in the plot may happen), does the attack scare...

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

I think the locksmith is to easy to just say "he unlocks it" - or not. But what if I need a Diplomat real quick that the PCs might do an opposing role against and might interact with several times (so for consistancy's sake, I what him to have the same abilities the next time they interact with...

    Generic (Non-Minion) NPCs

The template is just a baseline person I can modify from there. Starting with a scaffolding is easier (at least for me) than starting with a blank sheet of paper. I have updated the template and Locksmith with the suggestions posted here taken into consideration.

    Generic (Non-Minion) NPCs

Well this isn't a leveling class, so there is only 1 tier. I'll probably make it 1 + Con bonus. I agree the HPs might be too high. Simple Melee Weapons says you swing the business end at the opponent, so I gave it to them. But I was thinking about just one weapon. You are right about the...

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

Thanks everybody, I think the locksmith will have huge vorpal keys he whirls around himself when he gets nervous. Probably +18 to hit, 3d12 damage with 15 points ongoing. That should work for my 1-3 level adventure - or am I nerfing him too much? My first attempt at a solution is here...

    Generic (Non-Minion) NPCs

I needed a Locksmith to interact (and possibly travel locally) with my party that may be combative, but I definitely did not want him to be a minion. So I asked around with no real answer that I liked (well until the last one). So I tossed this template together (literally tossed - like 20...

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

I am not a fan of "the world is full of minions" idea. I like them from a combat mechanics point of view, for quicker combat, but if a "minion" is alone he get's bumped up to appropriate hit points. I know this will get all of the 4e fan's panties in a bunch, but I'll probbly just create a...

Bound Items - A new category of magical items

This is awesome! I'm about to fire up a campaign where magic items are EXTREMELY rare. This allows me to give a magic item at 3rd level and not worry about having to do it again at 11th - to match character level. This allows me to stick with rare and unique. Thanks.

    Undead and Vulnerabilities

The only big issue I see is that you REALLY nerf Turn Undead.

Expanding Roles - was Dropping Roles

This is exactly why my first reaction was "the staightjacket of roles has got to go". What if the fighter's style is to stand in front of the wizard and fire arrows (and whats to do more than just basic attack) until the enemy approaches and then switches to his main role as toe-to-toe...
