Pathfinder 1E Gunslingers and the Deadly Aim feat?

It's a little wonky, but there's a specific exception baked in for Deadly Aim. Link So it is supposed to work. Cheers! Kinak

    D&D 5E Dungeon Using a Large Mat.

My spouse and I both GM. She will usually draw entire levels out in advance and cut up an old black T-shirt to get pieces to cover everything (one piece to a room). You can see some examples on my tumblr. If I draw things out in advance, it's usually encounter-by-encounter on gaming paper. The...

[Updated] Chris Sims & Jennifer Clarke Wilkes Let Go From WotC

Man. I thought they were good to go because they'd made it past Christmas. I hope they, and anyone else who's effected by this sort of thing, are able to land on their feet. Getting laid off sucks even if you sort of know it's coming.

Pathfinder 1E What do I need (never played Pathfinder before)?

Some of the details are different from 3.0 to 3.5 and from 3.5 to Pathfinder, but as long as you're willing to doublecheck things rather than relying on memory, you won't have any problems. As gamerprinter mentioned, there's much less encouragement to multi-class now. It's still possible, but...

D&D DICEMASTERS (Collectible Dice Building Game)

It's cool that they're getting their licensed products rolling out :) That said, this one isn't for me, based on the X-Men version. I like card games and I like dice game. I even like deck-building games where other game pieces are used so you don't have to shuffle all the time. I'm just...

Pathfinder Society Has A New Core Campaign

That's... actually pretty cool. Getting a trickle of feats and classes and whatever from adventures you play sounds like more fun than poring over the stack of books you own.

    Pathfinder 1E Best Adventure Path?

For a newly formed group, I'd take Rise of the Runelords. Value-per-dollar the anniversary edition is a winner and it's just good, general fantasy... with a bit of a horror bent, I guess. My current Pathfinder group started with that and transitioned to a "Next Generation" of Shattered Star...

Pathfinder 1E From zero to Reign of Winter AP... Help!

The Beginner Box is a great introduction but only covers up through level 5. That's about the first book of the AP. My suggestion would be to run a few sessions of the Beginner's Box material and let people try out different characters while everyone gets a handle on the rules. The Box does a...

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords Base Set

5 out of 5 rating for Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords Base Set I think, as a vehicle for playing Rise of the Runelords without the usual stumbling blocks of RPGs, this is a great game. It's a little complicated for my tastes, but the design is very deep and a lot of people...

Pathfinder Player Companion: Ranged Tactics Toolbox

4 out of 5 rating for Pathfinder Player Companion: Ranged Tactics Toolbox Our archer's player bought this and didn't find anything for her. But our rogue grabbed a couple of talents from here that are simple and really help expand on her theme. Overall, I think the rules content in here is...

Pathfinder 1E Do high-level monsters need Spell Resistance?

It is weird in certain situations, but it's also fairly reflective of how it works in play. The vast majority of enemies are near the party's CR and that makes the SR a coinflip. You could make it any roll of over SR - caster level. Which would at least cut out a roll, but still slows things...

Pathfinder 1E Do high-level monsters need Spell Resistance?

It's an interesting thought, but I agree I wouldn't quite work. If I were going for a simple fix, I'd tend towards something like completely negating the effect if they roll an 11 or higher on the save die. It works out similarly probability-wise, removes a roll, and makes life harder for...

Pathfinder 1E Do high-level monsters need Spell Resistance?

It's an obscurish class ability, basically evasion for Fort and Will effects. So if you succeed at the save, you take no effect, rather than a reduced effect. Especially for bosses, it helps take care of save-or-suck effects that still suck if you make your save, like suffocation. Cheers! Kinak

Pathfinder 1E Do high-level monsters need Spell Resistance?

I shy away from SR unless I'm using pre-statted monsters. It discourages blasting, while allowing summoning and buffing through fine. Both of those strategies make combats drag at my table, so I don't throw SR in to make the blasters feel ineffective. There is something to be said for the...

    Pathfinder 1E Second 2015 AP: Hell's Rebels

Let me see if I can dredge up some memory from last year's GenCon Adventure Path seminar: * The AP grew out of the response to Council of Thieves, which a lot of people really wanted to be the "fight House Thrune" AP and wasn't. * It kicks off with a new leader being named in Kintargo, which is...

The Biggest RPG Story of the Year?

I'd be pretty excited about this. At the very least, TableTop could bring a lot of new players to RPGs, as they have with boardgames. Cheers! Kinak

    Pathfinder 1E Secret rolls

I don't mind my players getting monster information. For particularly complicated fights, I'll even print sheets with all the monsters' ACs and SRs. But I usually don't roll out in the open. It's mostly old habit, but also because our gaming space just isn't conducive to it. I GM from the edge...

Pathfinder 1E Back to the basics

We recently made a bunch of characters for shared play (basically, whoever wants to shows up, grabs a character and sits down). They're pretty carefully chosen to keep the complexity down, so lots of Core Rulebook stuff. I don't think any of them have non-core feats or spells, but a few simpler...

    Shattered Star Adventure Path

5 out of 5 rating for Shattered Star Adventure Path Shattered Star is really interesting in that it's not a Superdungeon, but is basically all dungeon crawling anyway. You just change location once or twice a volume. The dungeon crawling itself is top notch. There are good encounters, lots of...
