Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

After reading discussions that speculated that a two handed weapon user vs a sword and board user. I wrote a little program to try to see what the results would be. UPDATE: Had to add code to only use a shield block once per turn. I assumed fighters both had these statistics +9 to hit AC 18...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

Good to hear, as I did not come from PF1, it is good to hear that at least some PF1 players are happy with it. This is me, I liked 5e, but over time I have been craving more depth.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

I considered using and repairing shields was what I was talking about integrating into the narrative, because if they didn't want shields to be limited to encounters they would not have hit points. Other classes have spells or other powers that are encounter based as well. But it is easier to...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

Good question. I read through the feats and class abilities of the fighter.. and well I only found one that could be considered a daily. It is a class feature that allows the fighter to practice some old or rarely used abilities (read fighter feats) and become proficient with it until the next...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

While I mainly stopped playing 4e due to the onslaught of books and the complexity of mid to high level combat. I always disliked the disconnect between power limits encounters/ dailies (especially martial dailies). PF2 solidly bases these limits in the narrative, and for that I am appreciative.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

Be careful, because if a player thinks using an action to use a shield is mentally taxing, PF1 could kill them during character creation. ;)

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

I'm not advocating that sword and board is better than two handed. From the limited fighter rules I have read, two handed weapons seem pretty amazing, I don't recall any cool abilities on the sword and board side, but there might be something big I am missing. But I can add two things to the...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

They do both. Just having a shield worn does nothing. If you use an action to "raise your shield" you gain the passive AC bonus If you are a fighter or champion you have an ability called shield block that subtracts the shields hardness from the blow and then distributes the remaining damage...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

Beyond the standard shields there are sturdy shields that are nonmagical but the have greater hardness and many more hit points. Against equal creatures of about equal level (to the shield) they will be useful for many hits in combat. Though it is best to repair them afterwards. The most...

    Is Pathfinder 2 Paizo's 4E?

I would say 1) Location / placement in combat should have advantages and disadvantages which encourage you to use movement. 2) Movement should not be free as doing leads to no true choices, if you are at a disadvantage you would be foolish to not move, if you are at an advantage you would be...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo Update: Pathfinder 2E Core and Bestiary in Regular and Deluxe Editions

Agreed that design by committee is often terrible, but the nice thing about 5e's Attunement was that it is easy to ignore. Just use more magic items. PF2's system was far reaching, it effected most magic items, even potions! Also such a change in magic would be hard to ignore story wise, look at...

Pathfinder 2E Paizo Update: Pathfinder 2E Core and Bestiary in Regular and Deluxe Editions

During a state of the game panel going over the changes from the play test to the final rules they have stated that they want to reduce magical item stat increases. They had a system that would seriously curtail it i the play test but it was solidly opposed by the community. In the end they...

"My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2

I'm not sure if the PF2 = super heroes is correct. I think it just represents a different way view the fantasy genre. Having rapidly changing to hit modifiers might be considered more 'accurate' than the bounding accuracy of 5e. Using a book of NPC I have (Nord games to the rescue) we have...

"My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2

Agreed.. And I'm actively trying to be ok with that concept. So far I'm viewing it as combat experience trumps armor. In 5e armor trumps everything, the player has very little to no influence on AC (generally limited to Max Dec modifier). Your ability to survive a fight is mainly the provence of...

Pathfinder 2E Oblivion Oath twitch stream

I had originally started listening to Paizo's Oblivion Oath twitch videos because I was interested in 2e pathfinder and wanted to see how the rules worked. Now I am listening because it is damn entertaining (and a good source of 2e goodness). Go to...

"My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2

PF2 does seem to be the child of 5e and PF1. I was the most worried about skills and how they are handled. Being trained at all in a class give you a plus one for every level you are. Coming from 5e that was hard to grasp. Luckily if you are untrained you only rely on attribute bonuses. I was...

I'm happy with the changes I have seen so far for PF2. Long time until August. :(

Thanks Staffan! That is a relief that they even addressed it. I think that might be enough for me to give it a more earnest try.

"My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2

Given all this information. To those familiar with PF2 Beta, do these options represent much of a change from beta to now? I wanted to like the Beta but it seemed overly complicated (especially the skill DC calculations).
