    Touch spells & normal attacks

Cover is the only area where the "amount of miss" actually matters. All other attacks simply hit, or miss. For flavor, I usually treat an attack that hits the touch AC, but misses b/c of armor, as bashing the person but being deflected by armor, but that's just flavor and has no effect on the...

Using 2-Handed Melee Weapons While Mounted(?)

I don't think that's right for trained warhorses. The rule for "Control Mount in Battle" requires a move action and a Ride check only for mounts untrained for battle, and so doesn't apply to trained mounts at all. Neither part of that sentence applies to trained mounts. For trained mounts, it...

What is the feat that allows you to attack after grab?

If you're thinking about Grapple, I'm unaware of a feat that allows an attack after a successful grapple, although the normal grapple rules allow you to grapple, then use an iterative attack to deal damage. Improved Trip allows you to make an attack after a successfull trip check. Improved...

    Custserv@wizards

Nice rant. I'm with you. On the other hand, it's always fun to see somebody post a customer service response to "show" what the rules are.

D&D 3E/3.5 List of Problem 3.5e spells? Where?

But doesn't Gate say you "control" the creature? The Gated creature shouldn't just be following the letter of your commands, it should be doing what you want it to do. Only if commands have been unclear, and there's multiple ways for the creature to acomplish the goals, should the creature...

    Cleave question (AoO)

I recall it coming up on one of the chats or the WotC "ask the designer" 3.5 thread, but I could be misremembering. Just not that important of an issue for me. I think it's important to discover what rules problems are unimportant. :) There are lots of problems in 3.5. Some of them are...

D&D 3E/3.5 List of Problem 3.5e spells? Where?

The issue is whether it's "more involved," not "longer." The actual rule is: Gate already says you can freely order the creature to act for one round/level. "More involved" means something other than just "longer than one round per level," or else the phrase "more involved" is meaningless -...

Cleave, Trip, and please tell me I'm sane.

Per the SRD, you get a cleave attack: It's not even unclear, as applied to a trip attack. You must deal damage that somehow makes somebody drop. Trip attacks never deal damage, they just let you make a trip check. You get an additional attack if you trip them, which might do damage, but...

    magic missle house rules?

Why shouldn't arcane casters have one always-effective spell?

    Cleave question (AoO)

If it gave 1d3 full-BAB attacks for one round, took a full round to cast, and couldn't be used during the fighter's normal attack sequence, yeah, I might consider that a worth-while 2nd level spell. A more powerful effect than Haste, but without the AC, movement and to-hit bennies, lasting only...

    Cleave question (AoO)

Well, differ on the intent. IIRC, the designers said several times this was intended. Whether it's a smart thing or not is another question. IMO, it's not a big deal in terms of actual effect on the game, but really annoying in terms of "purity of the game," if there is such a thing...

    magic missle house rules?

Which is the heart of the matter. If you weaken Magic Missile, there aren't any 1st level damage spells worth taking after 5th level (6th for Sorcerers). In the grand scheme of arcane magic, if you make Magic Missile weaker, you significantly weaken two whole classes. Also, shouldn't arcane...

    Cleave question (AoO)

It was an intended combo, though. They changed whirlwind/cleave, but intentionally left AoO/cleave.

Los Angeles, CA Experienced D&D Players Wanted

Looking for one or two to join long-standing group in West LA. We're older (not nec. more mature!), play Kalamar and Greyhawk, and currently have two alternating DM's. Serious about gaming, but mostly into having fun with it.

Mystic Theurge - how's it playing?

Back to the OT - I've used a couple as BBEG's or BBEG flunkies, and they're about average. Until 10th level, when they get 5th level spells, they're really, really weak. At 16th level (highest I've played), it's not bad, if you stick to a buff and annoy strategy, but they're just not as fun...

    Are shuriken useful?

Effects from the same spell don't stack. So, only one Flame Arrow fire bonus per shuriken.

    Cleave question (AoO)

Are they your friends, then? Seriously, why can't a character hate snails with a passion? Maybe you really, really like strawberries, and the snails eat them before you can each spring.

    Cleave question (AoO)

AoO is limited to enemies - which is never defined. It can get very metaphysical ("The enemy of my enemy is my friend!"). I find it hard to believe 1000 orcs were killed by a wall of fire. Not even orcs are that stupid.
