And then there were 8! On Chris Sims and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes' Layoffs...

Maybe this was just a decision handed to Mearls. Maybe he was told that he was losing two headcount, and that either he or someone above him would pick which heads to cut.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

I hope we a hardcover conversion of the core Eberron books (sections of two or three of them into one) and then a bunch of PDF errata for adapting the Eberron adventures to 5e. Also, all the Eberron stuff on dndclassics.com is on sale right now. Like 40% off.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

I hope that at some point in Q3 15 they release a refined version of this bit of crunch in a nice hardback of 288-384 pages with the full setting and an adventure or two. They can probably block copy text from earlier books and edit to make it 5e. New books for the new people. New edition of...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

Love that they're doing this this way. Maybe we'll get an ebberon specific DMG/Adventure book to go with this.

And then there were 8! On Chris Sims and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes' Layoffs...

This makes perfect sense. That team is controlling direction, quality control, and final editing. Everything else is done freelance. Whether by contract work or freelance submission. Other than the core books, are they developing anything in-house?

D&D 5E Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Right now parents walk into B&N or look on Amazon and there is no clue to be had as to what to buy. Nine times out of ten, the B&N employee doesn't know. Here's what I see when I search B&N and Amazon for Dungeons and Dragons...

D&D 5E Light release schedule: More harm than good?

I'd take it one further. Let's say that Princes of the Apocalypse is the template. Every 3 months they release a new Level 1-20 (or 1-15 or whatever) campaign with a book or two. In addition to that they release a PDF or website full of player crunch. What if they slightly increase that...

D&D 5E Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Pretend that they don't want make money on the D&D TTRPG. Might they have some other goal?

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

This is exactly the wrong idea. This is the death spiral. This is where businesses go to die. There are 7 billion people on this earth. Let's says 100,000 are already inclined to play 5E. The company should be trying to keep them relatively happy, and also bring in those other 6,999,900,000...

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

Maybe a combined approach? Release them free online at first, and then take multiple online releases and combine them into a single book? Let's say that in 2015 and 2016 we get adventures covering: Elementals Planescape Dragonlance Ebboron Each Adventure gets an accompanying free online...

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

Me in 1995 walking into a store and thinking about what the whole AD&D thing was about. I see the following 2nd edition books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_rulebooks#Advanced_Dungeons_.26_Dragons_2nd_edition I turn around and walk out of the store. Don't even...

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

If it's a website like this: http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop/players-basic-rules I don't know what the need is for a paper manual. If you want one, and they offer one like this: http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/PlayerDnDBasicRules_v0.2_PrintFriendly.pdf Then it's easy...

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

I'm coming in with very little pen and paper RPG background, but a lot of CRPG and JRPG behind me. I've looked at DnD multiple times, but before, it's always come with so much cruft, that it seemed impenetrable enough that I couldn't know everything I needed to know before starting, and with...

[UPDATED] Has ADVENTURER'S HANDBOOK Been Cancelled?

I love that the players part is going to be free. Lower cost of entry for the players. Makes it much easier for those not already invested in the games who might be interested with 5e.
