    Mearls House Rule: Two-Weapon Fighting

He basically said exactly that. "Add complexity 'til it breaks. Cut back 'til it works." Seems like a dumb reason to fiddle with something that works pretty well. I do like your house rule, however. The BA cost really hurts my rogue.

D&D as Corporate Team Building Exercise

I have an opportunity to help set up and run a short D&D game (maybe 4 hours?) for a corporate team building exercise. I'm figuring mostly newbies. 1. What are some good ideas for a dungeon to run for them? 2. What are some things you'd consider adding to make the experience better...

D&D 5E Graceful Destruction: A Guide to Dex Based Barbarism

Okay, so a year plus later, Bobby Joe Boudreaux is now a Fighter 1 / Totem Warrior 7. He's a lot of fun to play (dumb elf with an Alabama accent and a mullet), but so far he's not much of a "hitter". Current stats are: 13 / 18 / 16 / 8 / 13 / 8. He wields a +1 short sword and a +2 shield, and...

    DDAL [DDAL] DM Reward Changes

Curious as well. Yes, there are other ways a DM can get downtime (Adventure Calls, First Timer, etc.), the departure from last season's including downtime days on "usual rewards" is a little odd. It really needs to be explicitly stated that DM's either DO or DO NOT gain downtime days in the...

    Update to Season 8 Rules

Yeah, they changed a lot of the launch page, and issued version 8.1 of all the reference documents at the bottom of the web page. Not any wholesale change to how gold is earned, which was one of the largest complaints of the system. There were a few concessions, and they corrected some of the...

    Season 8 Changes (Adventurers League)

AL players could number quite a bit more than you think. The DM group on Facebook has nearly 14,000 members.

What are the best feats to pick for my Human Assassin build?

That's not how any of this works (RAW). If you "surprised" the bear, the ogre and the archer, they would NO LONGER BE SURPRISED when you finally get to take your turn. They'd miss taking their actions, that is all.

    King of Feathers - CR10

I searched and didn't come across anyone else's computation, so I ran one myself. In Tomb of Annihilation, I make the King of Feathers to be a CR 10 monster worth 5,900 XP. If anyone has come up with a different CR, please share it. Thanks!!

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Dealing Death: Handbook of the True Assassin

I wouldn't count on the (UA only) Brute being allowed, but if it is that would be a pretty devastating nova round.

    Lycanthropy - Effects on PC's

I originally gave a lot of thought to just removing the multi attack altogether. Still might, based on your additional comments. Since the lycanthropy can only (per the stat block, at any rate) spread the curse by a bite attack, I'm not overly worried about an epidemic, per se; though...

    Lycanthropy - Effects on PC's

I'm drafting up a document to give to effected PC's. I've actually got a wereboar in one campaign and a weretiger in another -- and they're sisters IRL, too. Here's my current draft for the weretiger PC. What am I missing / what do I just have flat wrong? Thank you all in advance for your...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Dealing Death: Handbook of the True Assassin

As none of the other builds include any magic weapons or buff spells, you shouldn't include yours here either. It just makes the comparisons faulty. Still, 343 is an exceptional surprise round nova. Looking at the Brute in the UA, I (as DM) would never allow "brute force" to be used on a...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Dealing Death: Handbook of the True Assassin

I wouldn't consider anything from Unearthed Arcana, but now that Xanathar has formalized all of those except the brute.... I'm imagining Fighter 2 / Rogue 3 / HexBlade 1 / Gloom Stalker 3 / Paladin 11 elf with Elven Accuracy.... - Two base attacks, plus the bonus off hand attack - Bonus...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Dealing Death: Handbook of the True Assassin

Welcome to the forums, have some XP. Couple of things. First, no such thing as a "surprise round". A target is surprised or not, and if surprised is only surprised until their turn in the first round. I don't think this matters to your analysis, though. The Action Surge does not rely on...
