Barbarian Class in this month's Dragon !

Those are two important things, but remember that the entire idea of roles is about your place and purpose in combat. Simply effecting multiple targets or inflicting status effects aren't enough, those are things every class does to some degree. They all "control" in their own ways, but that...

Barbarian Class in this month's Dragon !

I find peoples idea of what constitutes a controller to be confusing at best. Unless he is damaging and throwing around a half dozen targets at once from 10 squares away with pure RAGE he isn't going to be anything approaching a controller, not even in a secondary aspect.

Barbarian Class in this month's Dragon !

How about this: Normally the barbarian has a defender like ability, in which all enemies adjacent are considered marked. He gets another ability that is similar to the fighters combat challenge, but doesn't stop movement. When he goes into a rage, he gets added damage to all attacks, but loses...

Fixing Multiclassing v0.2 (Input and opinions much appreciated)

I don't quite like the idea of altering class abilities just because you took a multiclass feat, that shouldn't happen unless you go so far as a paragon multiclass. The actual effects need a bit of adjusting, I think. Needs to gain and loose a little more class abilties, and in equal amounts...

Barbarian Class in this month's Dragon !

Well, color me disappointed. I wonder why they decided on that... I think that with creative application of class features that a dual role character is possible, or at least one that can focus on one or another with class options. I might have to throw around some ideas on that in house rules.

    So... defender, or striker? :)

    Rogue-Fighter Multiclass Feat

The wording here is a bit awkward. How about this instead: "You can treat this weapon as a light blade for meeting requirements of sneak attack, rogue powers and rogue paragon path powers." I had a long-ish reply details the pros and cons of this feat vs the WotST path ability, but I decided...

    Rogue-Fighter Multiclass Feat

Arcane Weapon Prerequisites: Str15, Int 15, Fighter, Wizard Benefits: Choose one weapon you are proficient with. You may use this weapon as an implement for your wizard powers Too good? Kinda makes pact blades and the spiral tower path a little less special.

Warlock Pacts for the Holy Men

Change the emphasis from being granted power by the gods in thier divine realms to simply tapping into the powers of the Astral plane itself and it's denizens. An Astral pact, where your alignment and faith matter not, you are simply bound to and draw from the power of heavenly realms for your...

    True Critical damage

Fair enough. My point was it's restrictive and sorta heavy handed, depending how that status would work. But if the kind of game you want is one where the cleric is necessary to restore grievous wounds, well then it works fine at that. Didn't mean to seem dismissive of that angle, I just wasn't...

    True Critical damage

A few thoughts: First of all, I really don't think having a common universal negative condition that can only be healed by a certain power of a certain class is good game design, it brings back the necessity of always having a cleric that we finally got rid of. Make it something that can be...

    New Class: The Lancer

Lightning Assault is a max of 4[W] damage, with the stat mod twice, against multiple targets. Considerably stronger than a wizards 3d6 fireball, despite the lack of range and only close burst. Also compare to the ranger's two wolf pounce, that gives 2[W] and 1[W], with a secondary 2[W], but all...

    Blue Mage

Well let me think... the calculator in tactics was very powerful, but also very slow. How about a path that lets you spend one minor action a round "calculating" in order to increase the effect of their spells? Say +1 to hit or damage with a chosen power, can stack as many times as their Int...

    multiclass swordmaster?

I'd say "any 1st level melee weapon at-will power that you know", why limit it to only fighter powers, when more interesting options available to certain builds? I can't see how it would be unbalancing.

    New Class: The Lancer

A little more here, a little less there. I say this is just a different approach to being striker, with a controller bent. A controller emulating a striker, in other words. But thats by customization rather than design, the lancer has that kind of build by default. With a good constitution...

    Blue Mage

Of course! Actually, I've been trying to make a 4e based final fantasy system since it started coming out (actually started messing around with the idea in 3.5) so I've given these matters a fair bit of thought already. I went the other way in terms of 4e compatibility though and aimed for a...

    New Class: The Lancer

On the other hand, there are as many single target attacks as area ones, and dealing status effects in lieu of high damage is also a striker trait (see warlock). Another striker aspect is that even though the lancer has area effects, it depends on the lancer being close up and well positioned to...

Removing weapon restrictions on rogue powers, keeping it for sneak attack

The use of the term "either" for that damage or sneak attack damage should cover that issue. I'm not sure if actually calling it sneak attack would remove or create complications. On reflection though, it is a bit too good to use all the time. A per encounter bonus wouldn't address the basic...

Removing weapon restrictions on rogue powers, keeping it for sneak attack

Wouldn't make it standard, but I could see making a feat for doing it. And maybe a feat to get sneak attack with other weapons as well - but only minimum damage, so +2/3/5 according to tier. Brigand's Weapon Heroic Tier Prerequisite: Rogue class Choose a melee or ranged weapon group that is not...

    New Weapon/Implement Hex Hammers

The basic attack option is cool, the fire damage is cool, the flavor is very cool, it looks about equivalent to the pact blade and I don't see any room for abuse with it. In fact since it gives in enhanced basic attack instead of the counter damage, and it's fire damage can be resisted, it...
