    D&D 3E/3.5 Why 3.5 Worked

And now (maybe more than back in the day) using 3.5 character generators make it soooo much easier

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why 3.5 Worked

And there are a lot of neck beards who got off on finding that mechanical awesome pc they’d plot from zero to epic. Also, this is the honest thing about being DM. You have to make rulings and sometimes its not easy. I’ll admit for 3.5, determining what rules applied was a key thing to make a...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Why 3.5 Worked

Still play it, still love doing so. Having said that, my group and I play it with a lot of homebrew elements to increase the risk of failure for higher levels (got up to lvl 13 before we accidentally all killed ourselves). One key mechanic for this has been using locational damage.

    D&D 5E Using different skills in 5e

I’m cool with using different modifiers and will alternate them from time to time. Agreed. The fear of complexity meant discarding 3.xe and PF1e clever mechanic of modifiers influencing but not determining skills. Without ranks and if D&D modifiers applied to the real world, that means Laksha...

    D&D 5E Using different skills in 5e

I don’t agree that the 5e skills are fine. The issue with 5e skills are that they are built like a secondary mechanic in the game. This sits uneasily with me given that in any game skills are central for 2 out of 3 key components in any D&D game - exploration and interaction. Indeed, skills and...

D&D 2E Which is the better fantasy rpg and why: D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e?

It’s fair to say they that the two attempt to satisfy different things. That food metaphor is not silly - sometimes I fancy a burger, other times a three course Michelin rated restaurant. They are both food, but offer different experiences. PF2 in my reading of it offers the longer game, 5e the...

D&D 3E/3.5 are old Living Greyhawk modules avaiable anywhere?

Err, umm, having typed “living greyhawk pdf” into google brought a bucket load through one site that calls itself an archive of rpg source material. I’m not going to advertise it here as I’m fairly certain it ain’t legit. Whether you are going to use that resource really is going to be whether...

D&D 5E Really concerned about class design

I’ve been thinking on this for a few days and think there is real scope for breaking (or slightly dismantling) the rigid class system in D&D. D&D classes exist for 3 reasons. (1) Give effect to the pick up and play approach (best exemplified in 5e), (2) A little related to 1 create anticipation...

D&D General D&D Art across the editions

I had a quick look and my thought is that each of the chapters in 3/3.5 are artwork too. It just so happens that the text overlays technical drawings that fade out behind the text and towards the bottom of the page. Certainly, the full page artwork in 3/3.5 is not comparable to previous and...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3E and the Feel of D&D

3e brought me back to D&D. It’s complexity and apparent infinite variations for me. I still play it with friends on a regular basis and have graduated from a player to running a long campaign as DM. So thank you to Jonathan and his colleagues for a system that I still play and love to play. Yes...
