I think a part of the problem with getting away from human centric worlds is coming up with reasons that all the other races kept all the human medieval tropes.

Alignment doesn't tell you why something is being encountered. And having shorthand knowledge that every creature of a given alignment has the same motivations is as silly as you claiming you wouldn't be able to understand them without a convenient label.
