Tell me about Midnight's magic system

The Midnight spell system is feat and spell point based. The channeler class gets the Spellcraft feat for free, and any other class can take it. Channelers get other perks to magic that make them inherently better than say, a fighter learning a few spells. There's actually quite a few...

anyone still play West End Games d6 Star Wars?

I never had the pleasure to play d6 Star Wars, but i really like d20, even though i haven't played it in over a year. I want to try a different slant though, aside from game rules: the d20 books are gorgeous, some of my favorites that WotC puts out. It doesn't hurt to have vivid full color...

    Favorite Monster for Baleful Polymorph

I recall in our older (pre-3.5) campaign, the spellcaster always liked polymorphing enemies into a fish out of water. We had some "instant death" issues causing some problems from that.

    pogre's model and figure thread

Frickin amazin. I don't see how you have time for anything OTHER than painting and sculpting! If you get a chance ever, can you post a pic with the Red Dragon next to a measly human, for scale?

NC Game Day VII - April 23!

Even though i'm not signed up for Black Eyes of the Demon Scorpion, can i watch the carnage from across the room? I'll be quiet, I promise!

    Tell me about Blue Rose

Woohoo! Midnight! Sounds like the magic system would make a pretty good port to Midnight too.

    Mongoose's New Monster Book

Any opinions? I haven't seen it yet nor read any reviews. Anyone own it? I'm obviously short of monster books as i own only 12. Maybe a Moongooser can tell us a little of what the content is like. There's nothing i love more than a good monster book, especially grittier ones along the lines of...

    Mongoose Publishing's Rep...?

I'll vouch for the Atlantean d20 Conan. It was the first Mongoose product i actually purchased and i was very impressed. I actually went on to purchase Road of Kings, Scrolls of Skelos and the Mercenaries books, and they are all very high quality. My only qualm about the series is the repitition...

Fellow DM, How do you handle Hit Point at each new level ?

In DnD only, I always let my players max at 1st level plus CON, and at level up they couldn't get less than half their hit die. So if a fighter rolls 1,2,3,4 it still equals 5 hp.

Frankthedm's miniature thread: 2014/04/17 Formless Spawn of Tsathoggua

Good LORD, Frank! Those minis are amazing. How long does it take you to make some of these? I mean, can you estimate, even it was bits here and there over 6 months? I love the elemental and the shoggoth. I would sincerely enjoy slaying my entire Cthulhu group with even one of those monsters...

    Grim n Gritty. Your experiences.

Wolf, what about Midnight's feat and point-based spell system do you not like? I think it works pretty well, and has tons of flexibility. The DM can control how little or how much power the pc's have pretty easily.

What RPG books/manuals do you really regret buying?

    H. I always kinda liked Savage Species, although i admit i haven't used it much. OR Arms & Equip Guide. That was just awful. Bad bad bad. And Dragonlords was mailed back as well, but i think Amazon has screwed me plenty of times on refunds.

    Grim n Gritty. Your experiences.

I use Midnight spell points in my midnight campaign. I've also used the Cthulhu system, but that really doesn't encourage you to use magic much, as it should be in CoC. Grim Tales had a pretty brutal spellcasting system almost as bad as Cthulhu. I'm working on converting Ars Magica to a DnD...

What RPG books/manuals do you really regret buying?

Creature Collection 1 wasn't the best book. I've never used it. Mother of All Encounter Tables i found to be UTTERLY boring. I think i had a different idea in my head of what it would be like. Dieties & Demigods. The art is fantastic, as per most WotC books. As for stats: i don't need nor want...

    Best RPG Books to Read

Reading threads like this makes me realize just how many games are out there. It's mind boggling. No one could ever play or read everything! (well, maybe) I would vote for: Midnight CS: The most interesting setting ever. Tons of fluff and not too much crunch. Evocative, dark artwork and...

    Ars Magica d20

I have heard of Blue Rose and read some posts about it. I really like Green Ronin and picked up the Psychic's Handbook a while back. That was a fantastic book, and i mention it because i think it and BR also use similar mechanics in their magic. They are skill based, and do subdual damage when...

    Favourite Dr Who.

What? Already quit? Why? I didn't see it but that seems pretty sudden for a budding TV career.

    Favourite Dr Who.

Dr Who was one of the THE definitive shows of my childhood. I watched for the first time a Tom Baker sequence, The Ark in Space i think. That's still one of my favs even until this day. For a kid it is intensely creepy, mysterious, and the campy effects looked great!

    Ars Magica d20

Well, over the weekend i worked on a spell sheet for Ars Magica. This is a pretty good draft (i like making character sheets) and it's geared toward the ruleset i came up with. Let me know what you think, it can still use changes and modifcations. It's sorta large (about 400k) so i can't post...
