    D&D General Tieflings

I prefer the 4e lore of them being an ancestry with some variable but still identifiable physical commonalities. But most importantly I prefer them to have a history and a culture, rather than being a unique offspring of human demon union. Though I still like this unique option to be an option...

D&D (2024) Ardlings, Shifter and Hengeyokai as different variations on animal people

I much prefer the shifter - lycanthrope angle far better than the celestial - ardling angle. I just think it has a more compelling potential. For me the key is being to think of this ancestry being linked into the world in some meaningful cultural and historical way so that it enables PC build...

D&D (2024) What have you seen new players confused by/mistakes they make?

The biggest one at my table is confusion between spell slots, known spells and prepared spells

Rings of Power -- all opinions and spoilers welcome thread.

I did not like everything but I liked far more than I thought I would. Unlike many, I thought the show felt like it was made by people who liked Tolkien and I dont have a problem with with his world being adapted for new audience. I am glad I got to see it. Some of clunky bits and screwy...

D&D (2024) People That Have Actually Read the DMG: What Optional Rule(s) Do You Want To Get Expanded In One D&D?

I am happy with flanking only applying to Rogues. In a similar vein would like to see marking and some other tactics expanded as maneuvers or stances for Fighters and Paladins.

    D&D (2024) Expertise too good?

I do not think expertise is the biggest problem in 5e, but I do think a bigger chance to fail now and again would add a bit more danger to the game. I like the idea of expert classes but I just wonder if there are other things that can be done to show expertise rather than add numbers.

    D&D (2024) Expertise too good?

Yes. I think expertise is way too strong and undermines bounded accuracy. I had a rogue in my last campaign that was +9 in stealth at 4th level. The idea of seeing it in other classes make we really wonder about the maths of the exploration and social pillars. I think there should be a rework...

    D&D (2024) Bard Playtest discussion

I do think I will miss the flavour of song of rest - it seemed like the only time a bard did a musical thing rather than casting a spell thing. It felt like a core bard thing to me.

    D&D (2024) Ranger playtest discussion

I agree that it is weird. I just played a Rouge Scout with steady aim and he felt more rangery than any ranger I have played in 5e. But in many respects steady aim is too powerful/too easy a way to get advantage. I wish steady aim granted a class ability which created a hunters mark type of...

    D&D (2024) Ranger playtest discussion

I am really surprised they added cantrips as a class feature - a ranger casting thornwhip does not feel like a ranger at all. I wish hunters mark was a class feature and the spell casting was in a subclass. I also really dread the expansion of expertise. I just recently played a rogue with...

D&D (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

No. But you can make alarms with just some string and traps with wood and rope in the real world. That sounds like a ranger thing while magical alarms and traps sound like a mage kind of thing IMO.

D&D (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

A ranger should be able to do these things without casting a spell.

D&D 5E The Role of Magic Items in early D&D (and today!)

Yes, I can see that (and I think a similar point can be said of the number of monsters/difficulty of combats in WoTC adventures). I guess my reference point is my starting point of playing D&D in 1e where many magic items had a similar reference point of power to 5e but there so much more in...

D&D 5E The Role of Magic Items in early D&D (and today!)

I find the 5e approach quite strange overall. On one hand they are interesting in DMG and important ways to customize the character, on the other, the official adventure paths have way too few magic items, especially weapons and armour. It really affects martial PCs - especially with respect to...

D&D (2024) Taking a healing potion as a bonus action?

I have heard of the house rule that you get full healing (10 hp) when used as full action but have roll for healing (2d4+2) as a bonus action

    D&D (2024) All about Ardlings

I think this is important. I like the idea of playing tiefling that is a result of a union between a mortal and demon or devil - and the rules should certainly support that individual and the customisation that comes with that. And there is a cranky old man in me that says get these damn...

    D&D (2024) All about Ardlings

I dont see the overlap as a benefit. Id rather these races point a real cultural being that has a place in the world rather than being a signifier of a rare individual. Race is such an important anchor point to the world. For eg, the difference between high elves and woods elves is that these...

D&D (2024) How should multiclassing be implemented for ODnD?

The only changes Id like to see is to make multi class martials levels stack for the extra attack and to make feats/ASI available at character level rather than class level.
