Ran or played in games above level 20 in "X" editions

My last 3.5 campaign ended with the party at 22-23rd level. I wish I had planned it to end around 16-17th. In the players opinion, encounters seemed to skyrocket in difficulty after 19th. It was still pretty cool, headaches and all. -Q.

5 rpgs I would take to a deserted island.

In no order: 1. 4E 2. Runequest 3rd (or maybe just Basic Roleplaying, I could wing CoC games with it) 3. Hero 5th 4. Traveller (Mongoose) 5. Paranoia -Q.

Where 3E and 4E players stand in the great 3E disputes

    1. Psionics: Good or Bad? One of those things that read good, but my players on dabbled in it. 2. Tome of Battle: The antichrist or best thing that ever happened? My players turned their noses up at it. I did use it to create a few villanous NPCS 3. Fighter Sux: Yes or No? Yes, no fighter or...

Mageknight and Dreamblade minis for D&D?

I recently bought a ton of Dreamblade minis on the secondary market for cheap. I like them so much they have inspired me to create the first campaign for my redesigned homebrew for 4E. The Faceless King was the main inspiration (King in Yellow anyone). Stabbed myself in the thumb five times...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

So in other words we're wasting our time and angst over something that can't be resolved. Good to know. -Q.

Was Reading My Mentzer Expert Rules and What did I see?

Willingham got a lot better over the years, for fantasy check out Ironwood... if you're 18 or older and don't object to sexually explicit material, otherwise please ignore  -Q.

Irreconcilable differences(Forked Thread: When did I stop being WotC's...)

If there was a Nobel Peace Prize for the internet, I'd lobby the committee on Treebore's behalf. :) -Q.

    gimme back my narration

One of my players is a wizard and decided from the moment we started playing 4E that her spells all manifested as a flaming blue/white psuedo dragon. When she flung a magic missile, it flew from here arms and attacked dissipating into sparks that reformed on her arm. When she cast mage hand it...

What's the most significant difference you've found with 4e from 3e?

Players pay attention to what happens on other players rounds. Combat is fast enough to have 2-3 combats per session rather than one. -Q.

Is the economic crisis affecting your gaming purchasing?

I'm worried about loosing my job, but I'm not sure how much difference the small amount I spend on gaming products would make if I were suddenly jobless. -Q.

Need some ideas for warm/hot savannah terrain encounters

Instead of just ankhegs you could use/describe them as giant termites, a nest could make an interesting surprise dungeon. A stampede of grazing animals along with the predators that caused it could also be good for a short encounter. The last time I did something like this it was in 8' high...

    Advanced Player's Guide questions

Very pleased with the book and the classes have my players excited. After we finish KotS and shift back to my refurbished homebrew I have a feeling I'll have a martial artist and a troubadour in the new group. Bravo Ari! -Q.

    How Long Is YOUR Campaign?

My last campaign ended in September after three years and six months. The players went from 1st to 22nd/23rd level. We played once a week for 3.5-5 hours a week with several month long breaks. I've been gaming for 28 years and counting all the more serious games I've played or GMd I'd say the...

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

Love: I'm enjoying every part of playing rather than dreading half of it. Hate: Lack of options, well play tested variety is the spice of gaming. -Q.

    Clark Peterson on 4E

[/LIST] Depends on what you mean, finding out you're "useless" can cause a lot of drama, but not the kind anyone really wants at their table. "Real fantasy persons" reminds me of GURPs "realistic fantasy" setting. I'd grimace every time I saw that, Creating realistic, deep personalities is...

    Ammunition Woes

I allowed a 50% recovery chance on every shot used in an encounter in 3.5. We had an Order of the Bow Initiate and he never completely ran out, but there were several instances where he ran very low. He was careful about how he attacked and spent more time trying to gauge foes and decide where...

    Mundane vs. Fantastical

Falling off a step ladder can do the same thing. Falling off a dire step ladder would be brutal. -Q.

    Mundane vs. Fantastical

The first thing that occurred to me was a newspaper story I read earlier this year where a man had "Killed a bear with his bare hands to protect his son", or so the headline claimed. The details were less dramatic. The man and his son awoke to find a small black bear dragging a cooler full of...

    Monster Manual and re-used art

I recall in several of the 3.0 books they reused art in the same book as fillers and breaks. It was also pretty common for art from Dragon magazine to pop up in a number of 2ed products. I suppose in some cases they may have commissioned art and then decided it was inferior to pieces in their...

    Churches Instead of Gods

In my home brew all immortals, including the gods, are bound by the chains of fate. Power comes with a price and like Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen they often find their actions dictated by cosmic order (or even worse, they are simply spectators). Only mortals like the PCs have real choice and...
