D&D 5E Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

What if I wanted to play a Halfling with breath weapon, though? If player characters are exceptional, there’s really no reason to ban that possibility. And if that’s possible, well, playing a Paladin with wildshape or a Barbarian with spells should be allowed as well.

D&D 5E Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

True. But once races fall out of fashion, it seems inevitable that people will realize that they don’t need classes either. The avalanche has started, it is, as a wise man once said, too late for the pebbles to vote.

D&D 5E Jeremy Crawford Discusses Details on Custom Origins

Although I rather like D&D’s approach of character creation by picking from a couple of options (race, class, background), I have to admit that those arguing for getting rid of racial builds have a point. I wonder, however, how long it will take for people to realize that classes are as...

    D&D 5E Alternate Ranger

How to redesign the Ranger class. Step one: come up with new exploration rules which make it easy to generate incidents, challenges, dangers, rewards, in other words, stories, on the spot. Step two: rebuild the Ranger with these rules in mind. The new Ranger should be able to anticipate the...

D&D General Which Edition Had the Best Ranger?

Adventures in Middle-Earth’s Wanderer class is, by far, my favorite take on the Ranger class.

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

I like 5e and I don’t actually need new material. But it’s true, I don’t see the point of the new material we’re getting, not even in a "I’m reading it for fun although I don’t intend to use it" capacity. So I’m still engaged as a gamer, but not as a customer.

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

So from now on, the only things we’re going to get is endless permutations of subclasses? Path of the Bone Crusher? Circle of the Blood Harvest? Way of the Glass Ceiling? Oath of Muscles? This is going to get very boring very fast.

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

Really, any kind of material that we haven’t seen in 5e: psionics, mass combat, weird science, significant support for the exploration pillar, resources management, radiance magic, diplomacy, generational play, etc.

D&D 5E It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

That’s true as far as I’m concerned. D&D’s Ranger makes no sense, never made any sense and will probably never make sense.

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

It sounds like the kind of material that an AI would come up with once it’s read all 5e core books and "Everything" books. It feels like permutations of old stuff, like swapping stuff around, like rearranging furniture. There is nothing there that adds a new and unexpected dimension to the game.

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

    Inspiration, ideas, excitement, innovation.

    D&D General My head exploded

Yes, it shouldn’t be any more difficult than adjusting to someone’s name changing after marriage.
  13. The Mirrorball Man

D&D 5E Fantasy Grounds Previews of Tasha's Cauldron

There’s nothing about this book that makes me want to buy it. Nothing sounds exciting, nothing makes me want to play. It’s just a bunch of... stuff.

D&D General The Best Non-D&D System for Each D&D Setting

Spelljammer could work with Castle Falkenstein and I could see a Mystara campaign using the Dark Eye system.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Are You Still Playing D&D 3.0?

I have to admit that I don't quite remember all the differences between 3.0 and 3.5.

D&D 5E How to Use "Charm Person" Without Getting Caught

In my opinion, the victim of a Charm Person spell should make a Wisdom check to be able to realize immediately what happened. They will get it eventually, but perhaps not right away. Without that, Charm Person is just a "Make NPC Angry" spell.

Dragonlance Dragonlance's Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Are Suing WotC for Breach of Contract

There's not much of an audience now for Dragonlance, so in my opinion they might as well bet the house on a remake of the thing that most people associate with the setting.

Dragonlance Dragonlance's Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Are Suing WotC for Breach of Contract

I'll let the fans lead you to the pitchforks for that inadmissible act of blasphemy.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Are You Still Playing D&D 3.0?

I'd rather not. We had a high-level 3.5e campaign back in the day and I still have nightmares.
