    Dawning Star, opinions?

I recently bought d20 Modern and I've been really considring Dawningstar myself. Do I need d20 Future to run the game? Or can it be played with just d20 Modern?

    Speed of Light question

In addition to A Brief History of Time, which is the book that drove me to be a physicist, I'd recommend The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. The first five chapters of the book provide, IMO, the best layperson description of special/general relativity and quantum mechanics. His prose is easy...

    World of Warcraft expansion announced.

Sweet! Now, I don't know if I want to give City of Heroes a try or just wait for the expansion. :\

[MnM] I've Got Your Back, Hero! The Trust Pool

This sounds a lot like the Mojo Pool idea from XCrawl. In those rules, its a pool of hero points, and players cannot draw directly from the pull to help themselves, they can only draw from it to help a teammate. If someone asks for a hero point, they do not get it, and they are denied any...

If you had a Time Machine...

One trip, one destination...the beginning. I want to see how it all started, no matter what the mechanism was. All these other dates are just details.

Did anyone NOT read the very end of The Dark Tower? [no spoilers please]

I read up to the very end. And I loved it. From beginning to end, I enjoyed the entire series.

Sons of Gruumsh: Anyone has it yet?

I haven't finished reading it yet, so I can't give spoilers, but I will say that the miniature "section" only consists of a recommended miniature from all of the previous D&D Minis set for each NPC and monster contained in the adventure. So, an entry might look like this (condensed because I'm...

    Dawnforge: Anything new planned?

Ha! If you think that's a sale, then I shouldn't mention that they sold them for $25 at GenCon. Oops! ;)

And The ENnie Goes To... (merged)

Me too, as I was there representing them. Truthfully, they were up against some stellar products, so I can't be too unhappy about the awards that were given. Everyone that won really did put out great products. I even got a chance to talk to Teflon Billy (Hi Jeff!) after the awards though...

    Tell me about Savage Worlds

I bought both Savage World and Neccessary Evil ( a super "hero" supplement) at this last Origins. Since then, I've read through both books, as well as purchased Evernight (a fantasy supplement) and read through it as well. Therefore any of my comments are based only on reading the books...

About the myth or fact (?) of needing magical items

I can't speak from a DM point of view, but I played in a campaign from 1st to 20th level that was woefully void of magic items. Over the course of the entire campaign, each of the characters received one major magic item, and a few minor one use items, such as potions or scrolls. So, this was...

Do wererats really have to be evil?

They didn't know for sure. The town had recently been the subject of orc attacks led by a hobgoblin (homebrew PC race), and tensions were running high. When the PC's entered town, the hobgoblin in the party was accused of it by the mayor's widow. The sheriff took the group to his office for...

Do wererats really have to be evil?

I actually ran a homebrew game sans alignments, where the PC's discovered that the village they were in was a breeding ground for wererats. I had developed them so that the only way for wererats (and all lycanthropes) to reproduce was to infect others. It didn't make one evil, but it certainly...

The Last X-Crawl Jersey can be yours!

If I happen to win the auction, do I have to sit at the table by myself, or can I bring a friend or two to keep me company and show their love for Pandahead?

Firefly - I think I'm starting to get it *spoilers*

Well, they were written by the same folks, but if you listen to the commentary, you find out that FOX wasn't pleased with the pilot. They wanted to lighten up the tone of the show, so they asked Joss Whedon to go back and rewrite it, and he and Tim Menear came up with Train Job. From that...

So, some friends of ours have learned about "Planet X" in school...

Yep, and metals can never be gases and concrete can't sway like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge either. Of course, they didn't believe me then either. You'd think I was trying to teach them that they can fly if they have fairy dust!

So, some friends of ours have learned about "Planet X" in school...

Actually, no. I just moved here so I'm not sure how good or bad education is here, so I'd hate for this state to get a worse name that it already has. The story I told above took place in a county just outside of Columbus, Ohio.

So, some friends of ours have learned about "Planet X" in school...

I'll provide a bit of anecdotal evidence becuase I know how well it fares on these boards... Having just finished teaching 9th grade physical science students for the last three years, I can assure you that someone earlier in their education WAS teaching them that there was a Planet X...
