At Origins a few years ago my red dragon did a quickened breath weapon on the halfling paladin, snatched him, and dove into a lava lake. I still feel slightly guilty, because immediately afterwards the marshall came by and called time on the slot. No, the halfling didn't live.

IIRC, couldn't you make a fiendish human who became a vampire? He'd end up being a "Medium Undead (augmented humanoid, human, extraplanar)", I believe.
