D&D 5E Character Hook for Against the Cult of the Reptile God

There's a 5E conversion I use that makes her a Spirit Naga. 37. THRONE ROOM OF EXPLICTICA DEFILUS Spirit Naga MM. p. 234 - replace lighting bolt with fireball - replace blight with polymorph - 5th level slots have been used for the day (700 CP, 9000 SP, 1600 GP, 100 PP goggles of night, mithral...

D&D 5E Character Hook for Against the Cult of the Reptile God

I ran Against the Cult of the Reptile God for my 5E group. Someone on this forum had the good idea of making one of the villagers in the adventure the sister of one of the PCs, so I did exactly that. Furthermore, I wrote a series of letters to that PC from his sister, providing some clear lines...

D&D 5E To Many Magic Items?

I award magic a lot more aggressively than the 5E default, because it is my experience that players like finding new magic items. So far I just throw harder encounters at them and everything seems fine.

D&D 5E Best DUNGEON modules, any edition, to convert to 5th?

Tears for Twilight Hollow was one of the best adventures I ran.

I think they've discovered PAX is a better venue for them.

Mike Mearls Talks (er, Tweets) About the Industry

It doesn't have to. If it does enough well, and satisfies enough people, then there won't be enough demand for other frameworks, and you'll never see a competing framework at the same level of success. I think this is what D&D has done. There's demand for other frameworks, but not enough.

Mike Mearls Talks (er, Tweets) About the Industry

I think history has proven Mike wrong. The problem is that D&D isn't a game. D&D is a framework that allows 5 players to make a game. So if you like boardgames, you got lots of different games to choose from. If you like RPGs, you got lots of games to choose from. But those games are the things...

D&D 5E Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

Well, there's no illustration showing how the different levels fit together. Nor are there any labels on the map reading "this way to the. . ." So the connections between the levels aren't illustrated *at all*. Much less "well." I mean, I'm glad you like it. That illustration you made is great...

D&D 5E Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

:D I meant *literally* illustrate it better. When I look at the map, it doesn't say "this way to the. . ." on the map. Nor is there a master map showing the layout of the whole place. Lots of other adventures have done this, it's not something I'm inventing here in this thread.

D&D 5E Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

This *is* useful, thanks. I often start by taking the map from an adventure, printing it out at 75% and marking it up with notes. I prefer running from the map, rather than the text of the adventure. And it let's me mark up where the entrances and exits are. They could have done a better job...

D&D 5E Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

This is where I'm currently stuck. I'm having a hard time figuring out the logic of this adventure. As far as I can tell, the players can go to any of the four haunted strongholds in the valley, and each of them has a hook leading to one of the four levels of the Temple of Elemental Evil. But...

D&D 5E Unsandboxing Princes of the Apocalypse

Would this work? I've already got a sandboxy setting with adventures littered around and I'd like to add the Temple of Elemental Evil from Princes of the Apocalypse. But I don't want to add all the sandbox elements to my setting. I'd rather just pick one of the pre-dungeons like the Monastery...

RISE OF TIAMAT Now Available For Fantasy Grounds

Smiteworks covered this, but there will never be something that does what you want. The PHB is not something that can be "implemented," as that it not how it's written or designed. It is something designed to be interpreted. Observant gives your character +5 to their passive perception. . .but...

Conversion of First Edition Weapon Attack Adjustment Table for Fifth Edition

As I suspect is true of a lot of people, I like the *idea* of this mechanic but this chart is a lot to handle. I think for my game I'll try something where a weapon just has one effect. Mace is +1 against Plate for instance.

    Really Nice Papercraft Terrain?

Wow! Do you have a recommendation of a nice papercraft inn or tavern interior? I bought the one from Fat Dragon games but it feels a little. . .bright to me, hard to explain.

    Really Nice Papercraft Terrain?

Ok, I bought the tavern from Fat Dragon, looks cool. The Terraclips "Buildings of Malifaux" set looks awesome, but it's out of stock everywhere, so I guess that's a bust. Too bad, it looked cool.

    D&D 5E So...Multiattack

This seems a strange interpretation to me, though obviously you're not the only one. Doesn't Multiattack always explicitly list the attacks? Why would it do that, if you could substitute any attacks you wanted? When you get extra attacks as a player, does it usually say "with this specific...
