    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

It's ironic that you're arguing against a "not credible" hypothetical with a not credible hypothetical where everyone agrees to short rest all of the time. I've seen a party full of long rest players overrule the fighter or the warlock many, many, many times in the past 10 years. At a real table...

    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

If your party doesn't want to short rest because they're too long, you get a whopping 2 spell slots for the whole day for most of the campaign (until level 11). 2 spells slot for a whole day. At level 10. At that level, there are almost no combat option spells you get from invocations that...

    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

Having a diverse set of buttons every fight is a lot more interesting than pushing the same basic attack or eldritch blast button over and over because half the party didn't want sit for a whole hour. Anything that moves us away from dailies that are too few at low level and way too plentiful at...

    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

To be fair, people didn't like 4e because all class powers were combat powers, not because of 5 minute short rests. They also didn't like that every class had the exact same structure which also has nothing to do with short rest time. If anything, having some classes with more combat features...

    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

The 5 minute short rest worked great in 4e. The 1 hour short rests in 5e cause inter party problems when everyone has different reasons to rest or not rest. If they designed classes around the assumption that short rest features come back every fight and went back to 5 minute rests, most of the...

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I'm about to claim this as the "Natural Zero Fallacy" unless someone has already. The Natural Zero fallacy is the belief that content released on day 0 is automatically less powerful that content added after day 0.

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I remember the height of 3.5. Outside of the educated optimizer caste of players, average community members thought that the druid, cleric, and wizard were fine but when less powerful stuff came out in splatbooks, people would cry about how overpowered they were. There has to be a name for the...

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

The thing you'd want to do if you were to give all fighter subclasses superiority dice is not to split the Battlemaster up. Instead, you just have the dice do things that are specific for the the subclass. Battlemaster: 100% intact Eldritch Knight: Spend superiority dice do to special magic...

D&D (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

From the powergamer perspective, counterspell is great. If a few people in the party have it and use it every round, you can just stop the DM from ever using casters. For anyone who thinks it's just fine, just watch the climactic final battle of the first season of Critical Role. I feel like...

    D&D (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

Sometimes, I imagine what it would be like to show up in the 70s with 5e books and try to pitch the system to he DND players of that era, or specifically Gygax's groups. I know they'd hate it. It's always funny to me when people don't want to fix spellcasting or class delinations because...

    D&D (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

It's just frustrating that they got it so right with swordmage and then fumbled the ball, fells down the stairs, and broke both legs with 5e.

D&D (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

Looks like half-elf gets a "free" +2 AC by using a shield on 4 out of the top 5 most popular classes. Having an always-on numerical advantage over other options is a possible explanation for their popularity. They're just better for a min-maxer than human (no darkvision) or elf (no shield) for...

D&D (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

Getting a free shield just gives half-elf wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks +2 over every other race besides humans, and a lot of people will see darkvision as making them better than humans for those classes too. We need to see the class data to get a better idea of what's going on.

D&D (2024) Abilities as Spells: splitting your abilities between class section and spell section

I think that a ton of things that are spells should be specific class features instead. The general spell list feels lazy when every PC at the table representing a different class has access to the same "special" magic.

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I think you've inadvertently highlighted just why it's bunk for the fighter and great for the spellcaster. The wizard gets to have all of the spells "equipped" at the same time and has access any of them at any moment when it's their turn. He has polymorph AND conjure animals in his hand, as...

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I'm playing a level 17 fighter in a long-term campaign. I've had a magic weapon that becomes any weapon as a bonus action since around level 10 and I've probably switched it from greatsword to glaive twice in 7 levels in order to get a little reach. It's just not worth giving up Great Weapon...

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

It's more of a concern about the spellcasters stealing something strong that's only a second level class dip.

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

I rushed out my earlier comment in this thread because i had to run and didn't really get to the main issue I have with the new fighter additions. One of the big issues with the battle master is that you pick the best maneuvers as soon as you get the subclass and each time you get new maneuvers...

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

The move to make Second Wind per day isn't horrible but it's the exact same kind of design that I dislike in Rages per day. The thing is that high level characters don't necessarily have any more combats per day than low level characters, which leads to a clunky situation where you might have...

D&D (2024) How should the Psion/Mystic be implemented in 1DnD?

I second this because I think the Wizard is weighed down by 40+ years of baggage. It just has too much in one class and is a giant pile of mushy tofu as a concept because of it. Strip out the illusion stuff and give it to the bard. Strip out the telekinesis and mental spells and make them psion...
