3 reasons why the design team shouldn't visit ENWorld

I think the author of that article has some fair points but I disagree with his conclusions. I think it's important to have a presence on your forums for the benefit of the people who have bought your material. It shows that you care about them and the game you've written. I also disagree...

Hybrid D&D: Combining editions (especially 3E and 4E)

Just as a follow-up: I have a complete and well-playtested rule-set that can I think is just the hybrid that the OP was asking for: http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/299297-introducing-enlightened-grognard.html :AMN:

I am beginning to appreciate some of the design decisions of 4E.

The simplest solution is just to use the 4e monsters in Pathfinder. Just grab the 4e stat block and adjust the numbers a bit. Not everything will translate (example: push/pull/slide effects) but I'll bet most of it just falls right out. The other quick solution is to steal an existing...

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

Is this the Ron with the ready grin and the blue car (Taurus?) that always felt about two miles away from breaking down? ;) Sure! I'll ask some of my playtesters if it's ok to post their characters.

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

For what it's worth, conversion really is close to trivial. I ran one playtest using Pathfinder's Kingmaker and had very little monster conversion to do at all. Most of the time I just ran them as written using the trick of creating defenses by "taking 10" on the saving throws. The DM who...

    Adventure path planning questions

I too resent what the CB has done to the creative process. Crunchy bits like feats and powers are boring when they all come out of the rulebook. I know there are players out there who, for whatever reason, won't use non-CB material. Let them. But please don't ruin the game for the rest of...

Why I don't like alignment in fantasy RPGs

I think there's nothing wrong with assigning an alignment to your character, but it should be like "hair color" or "height": fluff that helps you envision your PC not something tied to real rules of the game. IMO, the solution for divine characters is to use the alignment subtypes. You...

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

Thank you animus, wiseblood and Grimstaff. I'm glad to hear the positive reviews. I've been holding my breath. If there are particular things you like or dislike I'd like know. :AMN:

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

Thanks for the kind comments. steeldragons: Yes, I'd love to have some art for this system. I'm so incapable with visual media that I always view artists as something like sorcerers. I'll contact you off list.

    Edition Fatigue

I think that d20/SRD was designed to address this very issue. By making a base set of flexible rules anyone can make or play whatever they want. Is d20 perfect? No. But's it's a good stab at creating an immutable base game that can be played by itself or expanded in infinite ways as the...

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

If I started with anything, it was the SRD. I did add mechanics that I liked from several different game systems including 4e. However, some mechanics are completely new. I drew my playtesters from people who both like and do not like 4e. Responses were positive in both cases.

    Introducing Enlightened Grognard

Does this sound familiar? "I prefer Pathfinder, but the majority of players in my group want to play 4e." "I really like some of the 4e game mechanics, but I feel like 4e characters are all the same." "Trailblazer was a good start, but I wish they'd done something about the complexity. It...

    I just have a few Q's...

That's a great way to immerse players in a world! Please send more questions. I'm taking an inordinate amount of satisfaction in knowing the answers. ;)

    Looking for a Campaign/Adveture path

My group has been so/so on Kingmaker so far. I'm convinced that sandboxes aren't a good option for most groups and Kingmaker has cemented that notion. I can't speak for Freeport or Ptolus since I've not played them, but judging from the list of campaigns you've played it seems like your group...

Could Scarred Lands be used for Abeir?

Wait, I disagree! What's wrong with the backstory as written? Just change the gods to the FR gods. Scarn is a neat world, one of my favorites. It's worth the effort to put it in there says I.

Pathfinder 1E Converting a Paizo AP to Eberron: Which?

I'm astounded that nobody has recommended Second Darkness. It has the makings of a marvelous explanation for the fall of Xendrik. Alas, it's one of the weakest of the APs that Paizo has produced but that doesn't mean it's lousy. The flavor of Xendrik might be just what that story needs. I...

    Why Use Dungeon Tiles?

I have tried a couple times to make use of the dungeon tiles, flip mats and similar tools. I find that I get frustrated because they too greatly restrict imagination. I'd like every encounter to be completely unique. Want a forest encounter? Dungeon tiles can give you a fine one. Want a...

    random tidbit

I posted this to my campaign mailing list today. Does it make you want to play or bore you? [WARNING: mild spoilers for the PF Kingmaker campaign.] :AMN: When a criminal really wants to get lost, she heads to the swamp. The ever changing terrain and dangerous wildlife means that even the...

    Your favorite pickup game?

Well, contract bridge is my favorite game (after D&D of course) but it's hard to find people under 60 who know how to play. Barring that, Liar's Dice (sometimes called Dudo) is a fun dice game and if your night's session has been cancelled everyone has dice in front of them anyway.

Morrus stay out. Okay, fine, you can come in. Everyone else come in too.

I've pitched in. Awesome if you make it to the $3k.
