Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

The main thing I still don't get, even after playing w/Bo9S for a while are the school items.. White Raven Crown, et all. They grant knowledge and use of maneuvers, with novice(1-3), scholar(4-6), and master versions(6-9). With a non-initiator, that's fairly simple... They know a maneuver...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Yes, same hit die. Warblade has an interest in having an intelligence score though, so losing out on some of my point buy that could have gone into con. With the right maneuvers a warblade can gain DR/adamantine for a round here/there, but DR/- is alot tougher to get through. Those maneuvers...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Blah blah blah... grumpy mood In my experience, it seems there are fewer people saying "I have a few issues..." and more people saying "Warblade is broken! All PHB melee classes are obsolete!" And in my opinion, those people are wrong. And yes, I'll argue that they're wrong... I think...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

So, it seems to me that you're saying that you're letting your worries over whether or not Bob will enjoy his character determine available choices for the rest of your group... Do you then go to the rest of them and say "Sorry guys, Bob wants to play a fighter again... So could nobody play...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

QFT Basically, the "problem" here is that there are lots and lots of books with options for your fighters, barbarians, rangers, and paladins. There are alot of good options, but they're spread thin enough that you have to go looking for them. If you don't, your power-level might suffer a bit...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Hmm.. Things to look out for. 1) People who knee-jerk the Warblade, and declare him overpowered. Like Zurai said, it's likely the weakest of the three classes. Honestly, they're fairly powerful up until iterative attacks, and especially at level 5. They get their level 3 maneuvers then, and...

    Darth Vader: Alignment

So... 1) Anakin=CG... Vader=LE... 2) Anakin + helmet = Vader... 3) Vader doesn't like his helmet removed... 4) Vader with helmet = LE... Vader sans helmet = CG... I can only assume the Darth Vader helmet is, in all reality, actually a helm of opposite alignment.

whirlwind attack: one roll or multiple rolls

Are you giving each orphan a bag? Each orphan gets an apple and each opponent gets an attack roll.

    Need more spells per round!

It's just one spell over and over again, but if we're bringing cohorts/allies, you could have them bull rush the opponent into and out of a hallow or unhallow. Ok, so that would never work in reality, but it's a cool idea, no?

    Artificed scrolls

Which means you can't scribe it into your spellbook, and you couldn't cast it off the scroll w/o using UMD or DM fiat. That said, I think it would work if the Artificer made a scroll, then used that scroll to cast the spell during the process of you making a scroll. The one you made would be...

    Need more spells per round!

If you want in on th WRT fun, all it takes is a Crown of the White Raven (novice) and a casting of Heroics (SpC) to give yourself the Martial Study feat for a White Raven Maneuver to meet WRT prereqs... Though, as Mr. Nifft said, it's abuse and not something to pull on a DM you wanna keep as a...

ToB:B9S - A fix for White Raven Tactics?

*grins* Almost all of the games I've been in lately have started at 1, and died out/run their course well before 12 was even on the horizon. (So, conversely, I'm less worried about things i don't have to deal with) Granted, we just hit 10 in one game, with a Crown of the White Raven...

ToB:B9S - A fix for White Raven Tactics?

    1) You're 100% right, 10t level. I'm just assuming since it was a caster being discussed, that it'd be a straight caster, and I don't think any of them get a fighter bonus feat at 10 or 11. (I could be wrong) So, first level of getting a new feat after 10 is 12. Hence level 12 min. 2) I'm...

ToB:B9S - A fix for White Raven Tactics?

Quickened highest-level spell from the caster is a best case scenario... It'll happen once in a while, but a lot of the time you're not in position to reach your caster buddy or he's out of highest level spells... Really, after the first round (where I usually just use it to improve the...

ToB:B9S - A fix for White Raven Tactics?

I'm actually cool with WRT if you can't use it on yourself, and can't gain its effect more than once per round. If you're really terrified of it, maybe you could call it as only gain its effect once/encounter. Cutting it down to only a single attack destroys a lot of the utility of the...

    Book of NineSwords

Wow... Where can I get some of this common sense? I just can't really see how for this particular class a swift action that, like Nifft said, runs so many class abilities every combat is "chickenfeed" compared things that, while important to their classes, are often hand-waved away as having...

    Book of NineSwords

The warblade recovers maneuvers with a swift action, not a free action. Big difference, you only get one swift/turn, and it often gets used up by an immediate action the previous turn. Also, on the turn you recover, you can't use any maneuvers. Also, the swordsage brings around twice as many...

    Problematic warblade maneuvers?

It also doesn't say you can ready a maneuver more than once. "Maneuvers readied" is how many different maneuvers you can ready at a time. "Spells prepared" is how many slots you have to fill with spells. Basically maneuvers are like light switches. They're either on or off. Spell slots are...

    Problematic warblade maneuvers?

OK.. Alot of people are going to say the same things to you here. They're going to be: 1)White Raven Tactics, 2) Moment of Perfect Mind, 3) Iron Heart Surge, 4) Insightful Strike/Greater IS Some people are going into Swooping Dragon Strike/War Master's Charge I've been playing a Warblade...
