    Healing out of combat

From everything that has been said elsewhere, Healing Word would *not* be expended, if the next encounter was at least 5 minutes away. 1/per encounter translates to 1/5min out of combat. IF you used your Healing Word in encounter A, then rested for five minutes, then used it again, then was...

D&D 3E/3.5 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

Odd that you should mention economics. Its actually my biggest complaint about 3.5, and something that 4 has supposedly fixed. Most of the rest of the cases of simulation I'm happy to handwave. There are some valid points, regarding edge cases in the rule.. But a DM's *job*, while at the...

    Pre-Alpha, really?

Am I the only person that plays MTG:O? OR that thinks the implementation (If not the price point, which leads into another DDI thread that somebody already started) is absolutly brilliant?

    Insight's D&DXP Blog

Has that been confirmed? I would prefer that heavy/medium armours gave penalities to Reflex saves. Shields give Reflex Bonus, and AC, so Far, has been 10 + Reflex + Armour. Where Reflex = Inherent Bonus + Level Bonus + Dex/Int bonus.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I've been ratified already. Sif call me precious. >.> Eminently sensible advice, but I do take some issue with the fact that large portions of the game have changed, and while there is still much of a DND feel, for me, I can understand the people who are calling it a different game, in...

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

Or at least, a Maia, which is an angelic equivelant. You're point is a 100% correct though.

    Aristotle's D&D Experience

Nothing in the rules that says otherwise, but it does then beg the question of why require it in the first place. Perhaps it is intended to be analogous to the Assassin's DeathStrike, and requires a re-connitoire(sp?) of the target, albeit a quick one, to determine weak spots. Once located...

    Lava Rules..

A big crazy creature like a Mature Red Dragon could likely swim in Lava, from a Displacement POV, and I would hope/Imagine that a Red Dragon's scales could resist the temperatures for a while. No different to Scrouge McSmaug swimming through a massive pile of Cold Coins. In any case, while...

Are monsters of equal level a challenge?

I don't have the link-fu or the time to show you the spots, but this has all been answered. You assemble mobs into an encounter based on their XP levels, which should, for a balanced encounter, match the parties XP rating. Its similiar to CR, but far more streamlined. 6 Level 10 PC's, for...

    Lava Rules..

Density, dude. Density. Liquid basalt might be softer than rock, and gooier than rock, but its still damnably dense, and damnably hard. If it *is* hot enough for you to sink in, you're going to be really, really dead from the fumes and heat long before you can actually sink into it. Unless...

    A few nit-picks on powers

I'm kind of assuming it is either a misprint, and the +6 Power bonus is to Defenses I don't like the fact they appear in your space, either. There had better be a bigger version that lets you manipulate their location, later on.

    Warlock's Curse / Hunter's Quarry

I don't intend offense, but that seems to be more of an issue in how you are deploying your monsters. Feel like invalidating their curse/quarry, or making them move? Hordes of Kobold Minions, between the Kobold Artilllery and your ranger/warlock. Its a tactical requirement that wasn't...

    My take.

Swarms have more than 1HD. >.> Any tiny vermin category creature in 3.5 should, IMO, be used as a trap or trap-like encounter. The combat rules are not, and should not, be required to deal with them. Lastly, can it with the yes/no. Neither of you have laid out anything remotely rational to...

    Healing

I was specifically responding to that. My apologies. Under 3.5, some downtime is necessary, if you want your party to be able to utilize any creation feats or skills. Resting for 2months *between* adventures makes plenty of sense. In the middle of? Well, it wouldn't work for my campaign, and...

    Psionics

*grumble* Fine. I'm ok with the snot, actually. Although I'm not sure you can build a really rational case for why only psionics would utilise it/generate it. Psionics really has a requirement to be all pervasive, or not at all. And once you start crowding the mechanics around arcane...

    Healing

I really don't understand that kind of campaign. I don't mean that offensively, I just.. don't understand it. In any campaign that I've run, or campaign that I've been involved in, 2 months of downtime would allow too many things in the rest of the DND world to over run the party...

    Psionics

I said types and not roles for a reason. I don't want a psioic rogue or a psionic fighter. A psionic mentalist who utilises illusions and charming effects to control, or one who utilises reiki or somesuch to heal and bolster.. They are find. The roles are not class types. There was no were...

    The Cleric Pregen

I've never understood that kind of issue. If its lacking in fluff you like.. make it up? Put some flavour text to it? Have your cleric strike out in the name of their god, and their god bolsters the cleric and his party in return?

    Psionics

I explicitly do *not* want to see duplicates of existing class-types, just using different power sources. They've deliberately left holes for the Illusionist and the 'Charmer' style roles, and I'd be ok seeing a Monkish kind of role, but I don't want to see the rogue whose uses psionics to do...

    D&D 4E Verisimilitude IMPROVEMENTS in 4e

We've seen a distinct lack of TWF so far.. AFAIK, anyway. Although I quite liked some of the double weapons. Anything functionally similar to a quarterstaff should be fine. A Dire flail could be.. interesting, mind you. :P Personally, in 3.5, my major complaint was that these weapons were too...
