    D&D 3E/3.5 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is exactly my thoughts and DMing style in a great many areas, and seems to poke holes in a great many of the "problems" that people like to point at in 3E.

4e A different type of disconnect??

We've used numbered chits or slips of paper slipped under the base of the mini or between its legs to keep track of them. Depending on the number of minis, we've also experimented with small colored glass beads (like those put in planters, some people use them as life counters in Magic, I...

Can we get a seperate forum for edition chest pounding?

It is a shame that the discussions seem to devolve into the RPG equivilent of which superhero can beat up whom or the like. Perhaps instead of people immediately reaching for the keyboard when they see someone post a pro or con statement about any edition or game, they can take a step back and...

    Whoops- WotC does it again

Right. Or when grandma/mom/a friend/whomever wants to buy little Timmy something for his hobby but can't find the local game store on whatever sidestreet it may be on.

What are people doing with their 3.x colletions?

I'm expanding my collection as people move to 4E. The second hand market (online and at the LFGS) is allowing me to pick up copies of books I've wanted for a while at a pretty good discount, as well as replacement copies for worn out or damaged books. It's a good time if you are planning to stay...

    Whoops- WotC does it again

I'd also be more concerned about the large cardboard displays for 4E that the various book stores and game stores received to put their 4E books in, instead of on the shelf. That is far, far more trash than the miniscule amount in the dice set if you are looking for waste.

    Death at WotC

If nothing else, you could give it a day or two before making such comments. People from WOTC are dealing with the loss of this person right now, and while some may not want to believe it, there are more important things in life than whether or not you'll get your little game aid. Seriously, if...

    Whoops- WotC does it again

I've been to both, and yes, they do have the DDM as well as the little boxes of product; however, they have them at the front of the store (for the little tins and boxes.) The box of dice would fit right in with the other items, that much is true. And, like those items, they will walk right...

    Whoops- WotC does it again

I imagine that this is the major reasoning for the packaging. They discussed the best placement for the product in book stores (not hobby stores) and decided on a size, which led to the packaging and artwork. Smaller packaging moves the product away from the books, makes them easier to shoplift...

    PHBII has Half-Orcs and Goliaths

I think you may be wrong with regards to this. For some of the so-called 4E Haters, it may only take one little thing to bring them over to your side, be it a race, class, set of spells, whatever. If their favorite class or race or whatever is in a PHB instead of their being told to cobble it...

    Am I doing something wrong?

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with several posters above. I really enjoyed hearing about your game and how the players reacted. That said, the only 'wrong' thing, IMO, is thinking that there is only one true path to fun. As long as you are having fun, who cares what system or game you are using?

Problems with Game or in Game?

No, I'd suggest that breaking of the game often occurs when gamers attempt to take the rules and stretch them as far as they will go. The letter of the rules can be followed exactly and still break the spirit of the rules. the designers don't often take into account that some gamers will sit...

    Yes, most certainly.

Problems with Game or in Game?

If it comes too early, you can correct it. Heck, you can even remove the spell should it cause that many problems in your game. Counter-measures have been mentioned in other threads, the ones I can remember off the top of my head have been missle weapons, cover, other flying monsters, etc. Add...

Problems with Game or in Game?

That is a good question. Where is the line? One person says something is a problem, one says there isn't. Who is right and who is wrong? And that seems to be the thrust of many of the arguments: One person or side says X is a problem, and an equally vocal side/person says that it isn't. Both...

Problems with Game or in Game?

It'd be great to buy a system that was considered unbroken right out of the box. But I haven't seen that yet, myself (although I am waiting! :) ). There are gamers, no matter the system, who take great delight and glee in seeing if they can break a system, and they will tell you loudly and often...

Problems with Game or in Game?

The boards, however, are filled up with people who enjoy taking the game apart and digging through every nook and cranny. It's the equivilent of dealing with a bunch of car nuts. Sure, you can break the game and yes problems come up if you add certain elements together. Is it a problem to the...
