RP Ability Descriptions - How much leverage do you give?

I agree with this. I find it very pleasing when a player really wants to make a character his own in some way, and unfortunate when a DM disallows it for no good reason. As long as it makes some amount of sense in the context of the game world, I wouldn't want to impose a limit on the player's...

    eDragon: Starlock feats and powers

You seem to be talking about simply using a wand. Kunimatyu apparently means the additional arcane implement mastery ability that is gained from the feat (orb of imposition, staff of defense and wand of accuracy, all of which have effects that are usable once per encounter). What I would've...

The Adventures of Princess Elvira and Linus The Knight

Wonderful. Reminds me of how different gaming was when I was a kid. Ah yes, the days before I turned into a grumpy old cynic. cheers

D&D 4E How do you run attack rolls in 4e?

My campaign has yet to get started. Initially, I was going to go with the written down defense values, but after having played 4E a bit, I think I'll mostly just announce the results of the attack rolls. It's just smoother this way when you have warlocks constantly getting concealment, wizards...

4e - Dungeon Master Screen Review?

Note the "somewhat". I don't mind errata as such, and in general I appreciate when things that need fixing get fixed. What I do mind is when a significant portion of a rulebook needs to be replaced with it shortly after launch, because the thing was obviously rushed. I'd consider the page 42...

What "Official" WotC D&D products do you use?

Minis, and I use one of the old Ral Partha draconians for my dragonborn warlord (the only mini in over a decade that I actually finished painting). cheers

Is it just me, or are WotC minis...

I find a lot of my favorites are from the earlier sets, the newer ones being full of sculpts that look like rejects from some freakish cartoon. Of course, the early sets had their share of stinkers as well and some of the newer minis are pretty cool, but nowadays I am content with just picking...

4e - Dungeon Master Screen Review?

It's quite alright, just making sure. I have this odd preference for somewhat finished products, which is also why I haven't bought the DMG yet. cheers

4e - Dungeon Master Screen Review?

Is that supposed to be snark directed at me? It may otherwise be a great product but I'm patient, have a limited budget for these things, and I'd rather spend my money on a completed product (The Table being in an errata PDF instead doesn't quite cut it for me). cheers

4e - Dungeon Master Screen Review?

Sounds good. Hopefully it sells out fast and they elect to make a second printing with the errata included. cheers

What of each edition do you like?

I didn't really get to play earlier editions but exposure to them has shaped my idea of what D&D is or can be. One of the pre-3E stand-outs for me is Planescape. 3E: Removal of race/class restrictions. Players and DM playing by the same rules. 4E: Spellcasters and non-spellcasters playing by...

Anyone tried a fighter with reach yet?

We had a spear-wielding fighter for one session of KotS, before he dumped the spear in favor of a weapon with a higher proficiency bonus. I was considering a glaive-wielding ranger for a high-level game but ended up playing a wizard instead, so I'm afraid I can't really comment on his...

    PCs with too many scrolls?

I'm of the opinion that a wizard can never have enough scrolls, much less too many of them. A prepared wizard is a good wizard, and it's great not having to call it a day 15 minutes into any adventuring day because he's out of things to do. If it gets to the point where he can just leave his...

4e: are character deaths up or down compared 3E?

So far, it's about the same. It's not been very long though, and my campaign has yet to be started . cheers

Promises, promises...what WotC said, and actually did, with 4E

Can't say I'm sad to see Emerald Frost or level restrictions on rings go, or that I didn't expect Gleemax to fail, and so forth. The only one that still rubs me the wrong way a bit is "multiclassing: every combination works, always". And it's not that I don't like the system for that, but it...

What did you actually use for monster sources?

All of the above, but the vast majority came from the MM or the SRD (often tinkered with a bit, whether it was adding class levels, equipment, HD advancement or changing some ability or another). cheers

    PDF - Portrait or Landscape

Depends on the document. Short articles, possibly with a bunch of stat-blocks, work well enough in landscape format. For larger ones, where I will usually have the bookmarks or thumbnails open on the side, I prefer portrait. cheers

Of the standard 4e gods, which have PCs worshipped in your game?

In one campaign we have a cleric of the Raven Queen and a paladin of Moradin. Another is set in the Forgotten Realms. There's a paladin who doesn't quite have PC status in another campaign, but I have to admit, I don't even know what deity he worships. cheers

D&D 4E The grindyness of 4e combat: anyone tried a solo monster yet?

Our longest solo fight so far, which did end up as a rather long grind, was three 18th level PCs (warlord, paladin, wizard) versus an elder blue dragon (which wasn't played very aggressively). Things definitely go faster if you have a striker or two, which shouldn't come as a surprise. cheers
