A touch of idiocy in your game

This is a thread for those truly frustrating, humorous, or just plain confusing moments of bonehead-ery perpetrated by DMs and players alike. What are the dumbest things you've ever seen crop up in your games? One example was the entire premise for this two-shot campaign a friend of mine DMed a...

    Rules about sleeping

Just as a side note of possible interest, I've been informed (by late night educational television, fittingly enough) that in pre-electric lighting times, the sleeping 'norm' of most people was to sleep for a few hours, get up for a couple/few more, and then finish their rest with a few more...

    Little Help Here?

Hmm... a desert dragon, and a high-sea robber. Interesting. Though, with an underwater lair, it seems like you have a sea-faring theme on your hands. One idea: Ships vanishing at sea without a trace. Local economies and perhaps public health are suffering due to the loss of food and trade...

    Little Help Here?

Is he the only player in this campaign?

    Little Help Here?

First of all, what kind of dragon? Also, are you using some sort of progression in a 'dragon class' as found in a particular Dragon magazine (I can't remember the number) or just a straight dragon? If it's a dragon that has the ability to take on alternate forms (humanoid forms, specifically)...

    Disguise Self

I'd say standard spot check DC 20 (like detecting invisibility) to notice if something is "off", and make a Will save to figure it out. Obviously, touching part of a disguise that doesn't really exist (i.e. - that extra foot in height) should be cause for a Will save, if not an automatic success.

    First Character Deaths

Well, the first one that doesn't really count was a human cleric, 10. Killed by a Cornugan after a flamestrike failed to deter it :p Why don't I count it? Because in the haste of rolling up that character for the one-shot, I forgot to add his +3 Con bonus to every single die roll. So glad I've...

    Round IV is OVER

Ditto, echo, yes. (For clarity: My singular vote = Light Armor Proficiency as well, and I agree with the suggestion) These should go before Leadership, I figure, because Leadership still has some uses for helping take some of the load off DMs by letting players keep track of their cohorts...

    Gaming and your Significant Other

First off, let me say that this thread rocks. Very encouraging. For myself, my first girlfriend in highschool was responsible for introducing me to gaming in the first place. Since then, my relationships have sort of been split evenly between gamers and non-gamers. I've only run into to the...

    Bardic Music underwater?

From the Freedom of Movement entry in the SRD: Only water breathing or a necklace of adaptation should work.

    Firefly RPG?!?!?

Whatever system, I just hope the original flavour is preserved. Best. Whedon. Ever.

Is any one alignment intellectually superior?

Is anyone else giggling about the appeal to majority in a thread about intellectual superiority?

    You last "Kill"

As a PC a while ago:The rest of the party. Resilite nanovirus. Never trust a physician who works for an inter-system corporation. If they hadn't shot me, I could have used the time machine to prevent the whole fiasco. Oh well, TPK. Hehe. As a DM: ... damn, I'm too easy. Edit: Yes, that was...

    Defending property

Well, I'm not a member of the NRA, but the first five times I read this thread title, that's exactly what I thought it was referring to as well. Then, this time, the sixth time, it was magically interpreted as the magical defending property. I thought it was a new thread, even.

Blood! Death! and Vengeance!! Hehe, so good.

    Handling Illusions and Spellcraft

Wizard casts an illusory Wall of Stone right in front of him. Enemy spellcaster succeeds at a spellcraft check, and shouts out, "It's an illusion! Charge through!!" Wizard, behind total cover from the illusory wall, casts a real wall that occupies the exact same space... Mwahaha.

    Half-dragons in the realms

I also can see this cross-breed making sense. Is this an evil campaign, though? Cormyr would be a tough place for a character like that to exist without serious, and frequent hindrances, unless a heavy investment in disguise/nondetection magic is made. If this character is not evil, I would...

    Improving counterspelling

In hindsight, I probably should have read through the feat section a bit more :D This is why I post things here... Gracias to all.

    Improving counterspelling

In order to perhaps increase how often counterspelling shows up in our game, a fellow player and I did some brainstorming about how it could be changed to be a little easier to use. Some of the following information is already RAW, with some little clarifications thrown in. We're planning on...

    When PCs go "Swiss"

Thank you all for your responses (and stories. So entertaining). The campaign in which this was going on has ended, but the aforementioned player is a part of my regular gaming group, so I think it will be a great topic to bring up the next time we're all together. The reason I mentioned a lack...
