New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

I'm not looking at this as realistic or not realistic. I realize I'm playing a game. That said, there are certain things I just don't want to see combined. Healing allies and damaging others with a melee attack is one of them. Missing the to hit roll and still causing damage is another. To...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

That is true. There is no fluff text provided by wizards, so I have the mechanic to go off of. That said, to me, my ability to hit someone with a weapon should not result in healing allies, so a smite that heals a paladin's allies doesn't work for me. If the smite just healed the paladin, I'm...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

First, if someone is beating the hell out of me, then my friend is the least of my worries. I am defending them by absorbing the damage that might have otherwise gone to them. I would like to be returning damage. This allows my friend the time to heal themselves and get back into the fight...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Well, being a dissenting voice in the forum...I'm thinking he will be able to cast two spells when he swings both weapons in his two weapon fighting style.... or, whenever he traps an animal, all non-allies in 30ft are affected by a 2d6 furry animal damage :p

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Maybe this is where most people are having issues. I see smite as the paladin asking his god for assistance in slaying his enemy. The paladin might have a need behind asking his god for assitance, such as protecting his wounded friend, or demoralizing the enemy to protect the innocents, but...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Geez, did you see how hard he just hit that guy? I better unlock this door before he does the same to me (click).

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

After my player claims that I was gunning for their character ( ;) ), the party usually works out a way to extract the character quickly, but there's not much call for the cleric unless the member hasn't stabilized.

    Why Is the Cleric Unfun?

Yes, but this can also be attributed to the player not sticking up for his character. The group I play with has seen clerics that only heal wounds of the faithful, or only heal those wounds that were inflicted in combat (damage from traps were not worthy of healing). The game I'm running has...

How does striking an opponent heal your allies?

let's just turn the hp system into a psychological system then: It's not that the dragon was critically hit for damage, but was given a stern talking to about the shortcomings of the dragon, and the fact that the dragon has been repressing feelings of abandonment by it's mother. (depression -...

I Believe I Can Fly With Average Maneuverability

Chases tend to be a problem not because of momentum, but because there is no real chase mechanic to the game, and everything falls into the traditional initative-style encounter. It's one of the things I like about spycraft. The target starts with a lead over the persuer, both play some sort...

Foxglove Manor - looking for ideas...

I'm getting ready to run "The Misgivings" from Pathfinder #2. I like the haunted house, and think my group would get a kick out of it, except I have one problem: my party is too high of level for the adventure, so I need to scale it up. The adventure as it stands is probably a 6th level...

    PC Gen data sets

But the point I was trying to make was that the tool known as PCGen could not overpriced because there was no monetary cost involved. And if time is valuable, then the small amount that the datasets cost was definitely a value, as it kept me from entering and testing the data myself. The best...

    PC Gen data sets

Um....wow. Talk about a spin. Did someone burn a copy of PCGen to cd and beat you with it? Look, if you don't like it, you don't like it. But get your facts straight. From pcgen.sourceforge.net: PCGen is free, open-source software, and is distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public...

    Question on Office 2007

That's good to hear. I'm a vba programmer at work, and constantly work in Excel. I don't work in Word that much, but found it easy to set up my campaign document in a style that I like, and try different fonts or table styles without having to make an actual change. I have a couple of ideas...

    Question on Office 2007

Word is nice. The ribbon bar makes generating tables and font effects easy to use, and allows you to preview different style before you apply them. Haven't had a chance to work with excel as much though. I was just glad vba was still there. ;)

From PCGen to 3rd Party Software developers that wish to use PCGen Datasets

I think they are suggesting 1. If you use pcgen data, be aware that there is data that they have permission from publishers that falls outside of the OGL (which could cause problems with the IP holders) and 2. If you use pcgen data for a commercial product, then talk with them, because a lot of...

    I have an excel question

If you are wanting to increment the same amount over a range, the easiest way to do this is use paste special. You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. 1. Find an empty cell, enter the amount you want to change, hit enter, and then copy the cell using ctrl-v or copy from the menu bar. 2...

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

Actually, it's not that big. You just consider it differently. The players didn't design the plot. They didn't place the kobold warren behind the third hill. They didn't make the lost prince a traitorous rebel going against his uncle. That was the DM. Maybe I should update my statement so...

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

Ok. As a gamer, I grew out of games that did not have a story. It was good for learning the game, but quickly grew boring. To me, the aim of a role-playing is to take part in a story, and the aim of a game is to have fun, so an RPG should be both. No reason to debate. :) As a DM, I'm...

    D&D 4E Ryan Dancey on 4E

It's house rules. I would think most groups use them in some fashion. Whether it's the change to sneak attack like in my example, or changing the magic system into a spell point system, most stable groups will probably have some change to a rule that they don't like. D&D supports it, and has...
