The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

Oh? So what is 18 to 20? I'm guessing it would be more than 7. :)

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

OK, at least one person basically understands the diminishing utility and scarcity vs. abundance view. It's kind of amazing how many people want to try to teach me middle school math. However, I don't see how my position is a canard. It's a fact that the economy of the character changes at...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

Who? I don't doubt that you understand a one pip bonus equals a 5% chance, but you aren't looking at anything economically, which is what I'm trying to show. I'm not going to waste time demonstrating basic probability which no one disagrees on. Look at it another way--at 20th level, the human...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

I understand the math just fine. I kept the number at near parity for demonstration purposes. As the numbers get higher and the difference smaller, it will be more and more trivial for the non-humans to gain parity through the many means of defense acquisition. A +10 here, a +10 there and a +1...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

What's 3rd got to do with it? Let's say a dwarf at level 1 has a will defense of 10 + 3 for ability score for a total of 13. A human has comparable ability scores so he has 10 + 3 + 1 for his bonus for a total of 14. Roughly a 7% better score. By 10th level, the scores would reasonably be 10 +...

How are you going to fix half-elves?

The +2 to anything instead of Con is not a bad idea. I would have liked to see some sort of encounter power like a reroll on a saving throw.

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

Exactly. Feats are not as strong and you get a lot more of them. The extra +2 humans don't get could be worth 7 or more points in assigning ability scores. As for the bonus at-will, exactly what do you think you'll be doing with that? At-wills are pretty much stagnant. There's no improvement...

    Playtesters: Were Tieflings nerfed?

Sorry, can't answer the question. I can though say that tieflings are at least interesting and flavorful. I agree they could use a bit of a bump, but don't seem nearly as useless as half-elves.

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

Maybe not as much as they did prior to 3rd edition, but humans are markedly "blah" in 4th. Only one +2 to an ability score, an additional class at-will, one more feat that really doesn't make much difference in this edition, and a bonus to defenses that would equate to a mediocre feat in 3rd...

Combat Challenge: Two Targets Marked at Once...

It's just YAAR. WotC loves these since the Sage needs something to do. Who creates the new mark? Who is it on? Whose mark on what supercedes whose mark on what? Also note how 'enemy' and 'target' seem to be used interchangeably in the first sentence but do not have the same meaning (as far as...

When do you think Amazon will deliver?

I used free shipping and it says they will ship on the 10th. I don't get that. I will be happy if they at least ship on the release date like they should for a preorder.

    Considering Hexes instead of squares

Here's a quickie example of what can be done with just cut and paste. Right side intentionally left blank. If I took my time and made a better scan, it would look much nicer. I allow for occupying half squares, which explains the crates on the left side. ;) If someone insists on climbing on...

WotC Official PDF versions - would you buy them?

That's the last I had heard too and I only learned otherwise here. It's pretty ridiculous that they gave this up. I like to keep open various PDFs on my laptop for quick reference. It's better than juggling a dozen books with bookmarks. I would have paid a few bucks for each of the books I plan...

    Simulationists, Black Boxes, and 4e

I didn't wade through multiple pages so I don't know if this was addressed, but the OP is not using the definitions properly. There are four basic types of models: analog, descriptive (verbal), iconic, and mathematical. D&D uses these four types of models for different aspects of the game. What...

    Considering Hexes instead of squares

I think there would be copyright issues with putting the maps up for download. I'll post the steps at least if it works out. Question for those that have KotS already. Did they do the registration code thing to get the PDF with errata, or was that just a pipe dream? I can't use the D&D website...

    Considering Hexes instead of squares

Large and bigger creatures are treated the same as they are in squares. It's no harder. See the UA SRD on it.

    Considering Hexes instead of squares

I think I will be running KotS with offset squares or hexes. I am going to try scanning the maps and use GIMP to remove the grid and replace it with hexes. A printing later and I've got a hex map. If that is too difficult, I have found that white-out tape works well on the WotC dungeon tiles. I...

Why only two at will powers?

I have played a warlock for some time and one of the issues with them is the dearth of options, even at high levels. As fun as they can be, warlocks can get very repetitive. I do hope 4E plays better but I think it is a cause for concern. Perhaps there will be more options to build versatility...

    PHB errors and reprint schedule

Integrated? With what? As for more complicated, you're joking right? Last week I cracked my AD&D DMG and failed my will save vs. confusion. I don't remember much after that but I woke up the in the next county under someone's porch wearing a hot pink miniskirt. The miniskirt is understandable...
