    The times, are they a-changin?

Not necessarilly. I think it is more a criticism that the byproduct of the current system is a focus on mechanics to the detriment of story development. If the intent is to feel superior, then it would be elitism, however, I think the intent is to lodge a complaint on an area, which is really...

    The times, are they a-changin?

I don't think anyone disagrees with you on this. I think the point that is being made is it is extrememly high on one axis and extremely low on the other. The ruleset and tactics are great, however, the roleplaying is lacking in most cases.

When your game starts turning into Velveeta

Time to find a new group. Playing with power gamers is no fun. I have a much better experience as DM, when I very carefully screen my players.

    The times, are they a-changin?

I'd agree that I have seen this as well. I think it corresponds with the Pokemon/Anime generation of roleplayers coming into their own. Even the RPG magazine covers are a lot more anime-like compared to how they used to be. If you look at computer games as well, there are very few good...

    How Would You Reinvent Roleplaying?

Quite an interesting breakdown. The only other thing I would add to that are the social aspects of roleplaying. I think people often ignore that, but it is one of the strengths that table top rping has over online roleplaying. Not to say it doesn't exist online, but its a much different asthetic.

    MAT bidding for Hasbro??

Yes, you just need to focus on your major streams of profit and revenue, and hold accountable the people who are managing the rest. Hopefully, the senior manager would have a good understanding of the different parts of their company, however, very frequently that is not necessarilly the case.

    How Would You Reinvent Roleplaying?

Yeah, I have thought of this before as well. The caution is not just throwing more advertising dollars at a TV commercial. I'm not sure if awareness is the fundamental reason why people chose not to roleplay. Whatever the advertising, it needs to somehow affect people's fundamental biases...

    How Would You Reinvent Roleplaying?

Overall, roleplaying is a great experience, but I can't help but think it could somehow be better. For instance, like many people my group usually games at the dining table in my home. This isn't that big a deal, but having gaming environment with more ambience that was set up specifically for...

What would you like to see dropped from Dungeon?

Considering the magazine is 100% better than it was just a year ago, if Erik wants to spend two pages on Downer, then I see it as a worthwhile investment. Overall, he has been quite a bit more responsive to the audience's needs than previous editors, so perhaps we should cut him a little slack...

    LARPs?

Way back in my college years I got the chance to play in Andor's Boulder/Denver IFGS chapter (http://db.ifgs.org/index.html). Their chapter in particular is very professional with safety training, well-coordinated logistics management, trained set design people, etc. Their group was at the...

    Age of Worms - Kudos

I just got done reading the beginning adventure for Dungeon's Age of Worms and the Diamond Lake backdrop. I must say that I am beyond impressed. I don't want to give away anything for any potential players that might read this. What I can say is that the Whispering Cairn adventure is just...

    X-Files Setting?

Dark Conspiracy was put out by GDW a decade or so ago. You could probably use that for background, ideas, flavor, etc. and D20 Modern for mechanics.

Are there any D&D modules created soley for the sake of comedy?

There is an adventure called Monsterquest in one of the old Dungeon Magazines. You play members of a goblin tribe sent to raid a nearby settlement.

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

More important I'd say 3.x has really lowered the bar for quality of adventures. The result is a glut of poor quality adventures that most people can whip out with their eyes closed. In contrast their have been a couple sources of really good quality adventures... Freeport, Iron Kingdoms...
