D&D 5E When generational differences become apparent

I dunno, I think it might be more memetic than intrinsic. I taught myself and my brothers 3.0 in a vacuum and we were spared.

D&D 5E When generational differences become apparent

I don't know if it it is a generational issue, but it does seem that AL and other pick up games seem to have a lot of rolling. The other day I made a perfectly reasonable attempt to comfort a volatile npc by pointing out an obvious fact. The Dm made me roll. I rolled poorly. The Dm took control...

D&D 5E what is it about 2nd ed that we miss?

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't combat rounds 1 minute long? Much more abstract.

    D&D 5E The Eldritch Knight...what am I missing?

You handled that bait very well. Bravo.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana March 2016 Review

doctorhook is right. With a few exceptions, these things generally look like they are less than a day's work away from the play test material. I think the reviews are an opportunity to get some community interaction and fill the schedule of a feature that isn't getting a lot of attention. No...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Sometimes people lie. The character should have gotten a Wisdom or Intelligence check to remember something that his player forgot, and the shopkeep should have had to roll deception vs passive insight. Other than that, it seems legit. Sometimes we players need to be reminded that screwing up...

D&D 5E Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

I have killed games because the players expected me to be the computer running the hapless victims of their GTA style shenanigans. When players talk about how the DM's job is to "facilitate the exploration of an open world" or something it is a big red flag for me, because it usually means they...

D&D 5E Attack bonus vs. damage bonus

Could you guys walk me through this? Why 22 (or 21, according to Saeviomagy)?

D&D 5E Attack bonus vs. damage bonus

How does an attack bonus stack up against a damage bonus? Which one is better, and by how much? I believe the conventional wisdom is that attack is better, but I don't know why. (Maybe because if you land a hit you can trigger your abilities?)

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

I'll grant that. It just seems odd that they are holding out "chance for further publication" like a carrot when it may, in fact, sting a little to see your work further distributed without anything to show for it.

What's an OGL? An SRD? What's OGC? A Quick Primer!

The OGL is the same, what has changed is that there is a new 5e SRD that designates most of the 5e PHB as "Open Content" under the same OGL that the 3.5 SRD used. It's all the same OGL, just new open content.

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

It seems like a selling point here is supposed to be that your work published in the DMG (we're adults, we can understand context, guys, come on) will "be considered" for future publication by Wizards. But, it also seems that if they do publish it, they are under not obligation to pay you any...

What's an OGL? An SRD? What's OGC? A Quick Primer!

It seems like everybody is assuming that WotC won't offer an separate, independent licence to indicate compatibility for a particular partnership. I mean... has anybody asked?

    D&D 5E Killing a Teammate

None of that has been in any PHB or DMG I have ever read. In your home game, you are welcome to do what you want, I agree. But good and evil as overt cosmological dichotomies hasn't been in since 3e, and even then it wasn't as you describe. Which is why I said I don't understand why it is...

    D&D 5E Killing a Teammate

I don't understand why it is automatically evil. If they are in dire straits, they are not morally obligated to sacrifice their whole team to attempt to spare an overly burdensome comrade. 9 sessions is a long time, in terms of obstacles and danger. That fighter might be as good as dead...

D&D 5E Levels of literary heroes (and inflation thereof)

Bringing this back to Sacrosanct's point, I think you hit on something. Both the EU and RPG authors have too much fanboy in them and tend to overstat the main characters. In SWSEs defense, it was both cannon and EU inclusive, so if it said somewhere that Chewie was a tactical genius or the best...

    D&D 5E Is Conan in 5e?

I never said I want to play him. I specifically asked if he was "in the game", which is to say, if he could be represented. The underlying concern is that if the game can't even reproduce classic tropes, it might be missing something.

    D&D 5E Is Conan in 5e?

I don't think you can assassinate with a strength weapon so we might just have to let that part go. Or call it the GWF feat, and he uses the advantage from surprise to counter the -5. Edit: nope, I was wrong.

    D&D 5E Is Conan in 5e?

Yeah, Conan is not movie Beowulf. At least, not usually.
