Killing as fun and games: a question for the Good Guys

I am guessing it is because D&D, in general, is filled with real monsters and palpable evil. I am not saying mankind is not evil in the real world, just that EVIL is very obvious, very real, and very confrontable in most fantasy worlds.

    The C&C poll

I so want to try this game. I have scoured the boards for how to implement feats and abilities in and it would give me a chance to use my old stuff. It looks like it would satisy my need for a lighter but more fufilling D&D. My players, however fall into two camps. One group will not play...

    Pan's Labyrinth

One of very few movies that I did not wander away from while watching. Very cool. Extremely brutal and evocative.

    DM or GM?

I do not care. I run the game and host it.

    Are DMs subsidizing player fun?

I love to DM (most games, not just D&D). I have found that I truly hate being a player (too limited in scope). I buy books for many systems because I enjoy reading them and seeing what they have to offer. I don't really consider this a necessary expense so I don't feel it needs to be...

Races of Ansalon: I have it!

FWIW, I've always liked the gnomes and their invention rules. I am sure I'll get this pdf, just not sure when. For some reason Dragonlance has always been a hard sell to groups I run. I don't understand why. High magic, High Fantasy, Knights, Dragons. All the elements are there.

Other: Normal T shirt and shorts (because the weather here is always better).

[Dawnforge] How to become an Immortal

If I remember, there are only three books for Dawnforge, and none of them detail becoming an Immortal. The only Immortals book I am aware of, which is completed, is for the old BECMI rules. I know there is a book in the works for Immortality but have no idea of its' release date (and it is not...

    I am a better DM than a player (THREAD-O-MANCY)

I hate being a player and I truly suck at making twinky/min maxed characters. I DM almost all the time, though, and can make challenging monsters, npcs, and situations very easily. As a player I get bored easily and find myself wanting to move the game along, but I am unable to get the group...

What percentage of your RPG time are you DMing?

High end of the 81-99%. Been that way since I picked up Basic boxed set.

    Being forced to quit

Exactly. My first impulse is to tell you something nasty, as a parent and husband. But I will not.

Just picked up RIFTs for the first time since 1993 ...

Rifts has a strong and loyal fanbase. The game is not that bad, just quit trying to be so serious with it. Not everything is d20, nor should it be. I know some of you have played World of Synnibarr (which I also find, interesting). They both work for those who enjoy them. Someone upthread...

    Spelljammer...just wow

I love the setting, and have most of the hardcopy belonging to it. It was a good, swashbuckling/pirates setting where you could set up a campaign and have characters visit new worlds whenever you wanted them to. The idea of magic powering the ships (seen in other, 3.x edition book, Airships)...

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

Exactly, not unbalancing. I could've enlarged the half orc fighter or myself and received similar damage (Domains were Strength and War), or better with Divine Power/enlarged/etc..

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

We actually started at level 8. The maneuver would be executed, then an immediate/swift action to renew in the same round. Mountain Hammer sounds familiar. So far, yes there are lots of stone/earth floors. As to another poster, he was using a greatsword, not two weapons.

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

The Dm was relying on the characters knowing how their stuff worked. As it was a local gamestore and he did not preview any characters, I guess that it what happens. The three of us who were experienced showed up and rolled hit points when we arrived, whereas this character did not, but that...

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

I was using the fighter as an example of hit point disparity. We also had an ogre paladin, an 8th level wizard, an 8th level druid, and myself, an 8th level cleric. Just for myself, and I have been schooled by some seriously optimizing cleric players as a DM, even fully buffed I would not have...

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

I am pretty sure we were looking at multiple attacks each round where 4 or 6 d6 were being rolled.

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

That was my thought as well, but I was really wondering about some of the powers that he used (which I do not remember the names of) and if these characters are really as lethal as they seem or if the player is fudging on everything, or close to it.

    Unbalanced Characters/ToB?

Just out of curiosity, mainly because I mostly DM (99%), but I joined a local gamestore's Expedition to the Demonweb campaign. 8 others and myself created level 8 characters and showed up for the game. Of the group 7 of us were pretty baseline characters (core or real close to it), while one...
