    Anybody See GITS:SAC on 4/23?

Anybody watch last Saturday's Episode of Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex? I don't want to give anything away for people who haven't, but it was pretty intense and seemed like a season finale. Am I right in this assumption? Does anybody know? I once read that the second movie takes place...

What are you reading? (April 2005)

Just last night I finished The Warrior-Phrophet by R. Scott Bakker. I can't understand why so many people don't give this series enough credit. For sure, the first volume The Darkness That Comes Before took a bit to get into...but this one..by god. Anasurimbor Kellhus is the most enjoyable...

What's my favorite weapon? My mind.

    Next in Limper Brainstorms! Warrens.

I vaguely remember (so vaguely I might be making it up) reading something on another thread (don't even ask which one) about how the author intentionally made the "Warrens" very confusing and complicated (or something like that) and therefore it would be almost impossible to translate them into...

    Well, I now feel dumber.....

Your brain is more active during sleep than it is while watching television. And that's one to grow on.

What Are You Reading? (March 2005)

Patricia A. McKillip's "Song For The Basilisk". It's good so far, very nice. There's a few things that remind me of Guy Gavriel Kay's "Tigana", which is a good thing. I don't know what to read after that. Anybody got any suggestions?

    One-word title for a Fighter-Mage core class.

Yeah, really. I thought it was obvious. I guess it's just me and BigFreekinGoblinoid.

    [Feb05] What are you reading?

I found Samuel R. Daleny's "Tales Of Neveryon" at a used book store. It's an old early 80's (i think) mass market copy. The blurb on the back reads "Epic adventure in a realm of fantasy..." but I'm about 120 pages into and there hasn't been one sword fight or spell cast yet, and I love it. It's...

    Zombie movies

I have to admit I'm not a huge zombie fan. I like Dawn (old one) and Day of the Dead, but my favorite zombie movie is Shaun of the Dead...so I guess I like the semi serious semi silly ones the best.

    Music Tastes

If I wasn't such a geek with bad fashion sense I'd be a hipster. On!Air!Library!, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Stars, Sleater-Kinney, Broken Social Scene, Metric, The Dears,...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead...(tell me that doesn't sound like the title for an old D&D module), Juno, The...

    Lighthearted character names?

It depends on the campaing. If I ever run one, I try to pretty serious, so I'm kinda erked when one player in particular comes up with a weird name. For Instance: Albert Fozalone. A halfling running around in a loin cloth, with a big afro and a pick in his hair. He...

AAAARRGGGHHH!!! (Or "Enough with the trilogies already!!!")

A bunch of people already mentioned China Mieville and Guy Gavrial Kay, and I'd like to third (or fourth, or fifth) these motions. I read Mieville's "The Scar" first, and I'm glad I did because I liked it a lot better then "Perdido Street Station". Oh, and "The Iron Council" was pretty damn good...

    dead thread - please delete

I'm curious; are you going to have something analogous to Dark Sun's Avangion? I'm pretty sure the "good" Dragon-King Oronis was one.

    Why so anti-Palladium

Yeah, Rifts. We didn't realize how unbalanced it was until we started playing Cyberpunk 2020 where, buy golly, your character can actually die with one hit! Still, as much as the rules were awful, we had fun. My first character was an Operator (mechanic) with some psi-powers. It wasn't so bad...

    dead thread - please delete

Please don't take this off the boards. It's in my Favorites File. I love that you're using Dark Sun as the basis for this setting. It's long been one of my favorite settings ever published. I'm eagerly awaiting more from you. Well done. Have you read the Flat Earth Series by Tanith Lee. You...

Who is the worst villain in D&D?

I voted for Orcus, because really, who doesn't love a corpulent god of undeath. One of my first D&D experience's involved Orcus...not minions or a cleric of....but the Demon Lord Of Undeath himself. Ah Memories. You said no gods, but If I'm correct Orcus is (or was) one, and so is Vecna. I'd...

    Do we really need Monks?

They inspired the Oathsworn Class from Monte Cooks Arcana Unearthed/Evolved, and they make a pretty good monk replacement. I have two homebrew worlds....one is heavily inspired from medieval europe (surprise) and the monk class is not an option. The other world is a "everything plus the...

    Science Fiction Reading Suggestions

I'm mostly a fantasy guy myself, so I know what you mean. Have you read Dune yet? The first one deserves it's "classic" status, but I stopped after the second book (did Herbert really write that?). Dan Simmons Hyperion and Endymion Series (Hyperion & Fall of Hyperion; Endymion & Rise of...
