    Who was right

This thread just gets funnier and funnier. Seriously though, I would question the DM regarding the actual rolls and damage accrued to your shield. Before the actual damage/hardness, etc. rules were brought up, I assumed that the developments came to pass based on die rolls. If it's anything...

    Worst role-playing experience?

I went to a game at a gaming store, where my character received a Staff of the Magi, a +8 Bracers of Armor, and a Wand of Lightning Bolts (10th level). The character I rolled up with 6th level. everyone else in the party was decked out in similarly powerful gear. The second and third encouters...

D&D 3E/3.5 DND 3.5 Swift Action - Swift Action Spell

It goes like this: 1. Drow cleric is about to attack me. 2. He completes his action. 3. I cast Expedition Retreat (swift action) 4. I move 40 feet (move action) 5. I pick up sword (second move action). I'd also note that the casting of a swift expeditious retreat spell offers the ability to...

    Any Open Settings?

That's a good idea. You could even use Death as the god of death. And when I say death, I mean the skeletal robed figure with the scythe . . . not Brad PittD

    Who was right

I'd add to this, and say that your Paladin is totally Lawful Neutral. Part of being Good requires a bit of sacrifice once in a while. You aren't even sacrificing your life, you're sacrificing a friggin' shield. Not only that, it makes enemies easier to hit you, causing you pain, suffering, etc...

    Tell me of your clan.

Clan Levinstg "The Beardless" These ruddy-skinned dwarves spend their time basking in the heat of the weapon forges. Expert craftmen, they hone their axes and spears to razor sharpness, weaving intricate runes of battle and glory into the metal. They are completely hairless and darker skinned...

    Why Fighter/Mage?

You said it all. I've known many players in my 20+ years of gaming who just want to be Jedi. Every character they make, in some form or another, is a Jedi. They even try to talk like Jedi. If midiclorians actually existed, these players would be sharing needles full of "force" microbes and...

Pathfinder 1E New Pathfinder Is Up

I agree with the Rage flavor. Why would they get Darkvision, and how is 2-3 rounds of darkvision (after spending points) at all useful? I think one of the ideas behind the Pathfinder classes is that they will provide enough options not to multiclass. There are supposed to be enough abilities...

Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

One good thing about Polar Ray is that it doesn't require any metamagic feats. You don't need to have acess to Empower, Maximize, etc to make it effective. Other combinations of evocation spells may do more dice of damage, but if you want to be a Sorcerer with bloodline feats, you can still get...

    Handful of New House Rules

Cure Minor Wounds + Unlimited uses = seems like a good couple of rules. It can't really affect gameplay in a negative way, yet it also allows players to forego the Craft (makeshift sled), and allow players to walk away from a battle under their own power. I like that.

If you could study Game Design

A good list . . . I would also add Macroeconomics. As for Philosophy, I'd stick to the Continentals . . . but don't get too bogged down, one of the goals of good game design is having and keeping the interest of an audience.

    Is this offensive?

If the point of your post is atheletic participation, why exactly is this being thrown in there. There are many men in this world who take on the primary caregiver role, and that number is growing every day. I will probably be one of them, if my wife has anything to say about it (and I'll be...

    Spells I Never Use

Good point. I guess I'd say that my players don't know, unless they're reading this now. Before I came up with the list this morning, I actually didn't know either. I just realized that I've been passively avoiding many of these spells from the beginning, and I thought I'd look at the PH and...

Gamers and Theatre: Is There a Connection?

I was very involved in theatre in high school, and did a little in college too. I minored in Speech/Theatre education. I definitely see a connection, yet almost everyone I game with now is into computers or a scientific field, and probably did little to no acting (I haven't asked them yet). I...

    Fixing the Power Attack problem

Thanks, I'm using this in my game. Shields make a comeback. Would you think using a third feat for light weapons (with the other two as prerequisites) as unbalancing at all?

    Spells I Never Use

That's cool. I also don't think they're necessarily modifications. It's just when I make a NPC spellcaster, or use a pregenerated one, I simply use other otions than those listed above. The PCs still have acess to those effects. When I ran Age of Worms, I had this huge buildup leading to the...

    Spells I Never Use

After DMing 3.5 off and on for 5 years, there are many spells I've never used against players. We've been hearing about 4th edition, and how they have removed save or die effects from the game, and I was wondering how I compare. I still enjoy seeing save or die effects in my games, but only from...

    If I were a grognard....

A side note There are game rules . . . and there are the printed projects of a publishing company. I'd say that if you are continuing to buy suppliments for a game, then you are technically supporting it, whether you actually play it or not. I still love 3.5, and see myself playing it for a...

The Shadar-kai are NEVER going to be the next drow

Yeah . . . well you better hurry, because whoever does it first gets to be part of "D&D Canon," to be praised and worshipped by grognards across the mulitverse. Whoever does it second is a poser who deserves nothing but reactionary scorn. May the best man win! :p
