what isn't an rpg that should be?

excellent calls here ...transformers seems like such a natural fit -a stat block lover's fantasy. and im loving the idea of a silent hill rpg ... i would agree that the horror camps have pretty much split into either ravenloft or lovecraft...definitely room for a more bracing/modern take...

have computer role playing games influenced your tabletop designs ?

completely agree. after reading (and watching ...you tube ftw-dorkland roundtable interviews are really good ) a bunch of interviews with game designers i was struck by how few of them even mentioned computer rpg's (these mentions are largely in passing..perhaps they worked on one...or a...

have computer role playing games influenced your tabletop designs ?

and i definitely agree more than disagree here...but still just like a fantasy novel can inspire one can also be inspired by computer fantasy worlds. just seeing towns (in a well done computer game) gives one an idea (if however unrealistic) of how a world might operate/be organized etc.. so i...

have computer role playing games influenced your tabletop designs ?

you know tho is say a baldur's gate that much more 'railroady' (i hate game jargon ...:D)..than say some of the early dungeons and dragons modules or dare i say some(most ) of the pathfinder ap's? tabletop rpg's do allow freedom and creativity (hey don't like a module...just keep a...

have computer role playing games influenced your tabletop designs ?

i think that's a valid point and i edited post above to point out some of the limitations of computer rpg's but there are similarities between computer 'rpgs' and tabletop...character creation/genre settings/combat etc. dungeons and dragons 4e for instance is commonly (not sure if this is...

what isn't an rpg that should be?

loving these guys... even tho im more of a fantasy rpger i would love to see a dune rpg redone(maybe based more on the david lynch film than on the books...the books are pretty difficult reads :.-( ) and dreadstar is definitely a killer property...so much damn angst in one comic :D.

what isn't an rpg that should be?

aka why isn't there a he-man rpg :D. just started this one to get people's ideas on properties/licenses that should be rpg's. could also be properties that have been made but for all intents and purposes have been long abandoned. these do not have to be commercial properties (grimm brothers...

Settings and adventures modules design: providing useful products

Existanc3 first of all love the avalanche website (clean design with great style) and the game looks very intriguing. my only worry with system less/rules light games (i felt this way about esteren too...and i actually am a fan of rules light games but esteren is almost all setting) is that the...

Settings and adventures modules design: providing useful products

good ideas here...me personally i am gravitating more towards smaller books/modules now. i like the way dragon age rpg did theirs (64 page phb and 64 page dmg)...with supplements along the way. more bite sized chunks and less 3 course meal :D. it's tough for me to buy a 300 page...

Would/do you continue to buy RPG books even when you have no one to play with?

i definitely do :D...a well written sourcebook or module is like a fantasy book anyways. plus great idea mine for illustrations and concepts -as well as mechanics etc.
