D&D 5E Enhancing "Curse of Strahd" (and DDAL adventures)

I've not gotten my CoS book yet, but I'm thinking I'm going to be using miniatures and a battle mat for parts of it. Now I need to figure out how many miniatures I'll need to find. I figure I'm going to need more than the two wolves that I have and I don't have any bat swarms.

D&D 5E Where are the options?

I'm so glad that 5E is the way it is. I went Essentials only with my 4E game because I hate the power creep from endless new books being released that end up being 'mandatory' for character advancement. I have some neighbors that play Pathfinder and I spent a day looking at making a character...

D&D 5E Strahd is not a typical vampire

I'm glad that even the vampire spawn can be something that can scare a party if they meet one. A 4E adventure had a group of minion (1 HP) vampires in one encounter and that did not sit very well with me. I like my vampires to be rare and frightening. When I ran the encounter, I kept the stats...

Want To See The Castle Ravenloft Poster Map In CURSE OF STRAHD?

I was just about to run I6 for my home game. I'm very glad for the CoS being released and it's the first 5E adventure I've bought besides the Starter Set. I like having the encounters and loot updated and the fact that it adds more material to go from levels 1-10. If it did not keep the I6...

Want To See The Castle Ravenloft Poster Map In CURSE OF STRAHD?

I'm glad this is an updated I6. I was about to run I6 for my family game, but the monsters and treasure conversions were just not working out right. The map was also hard to read in the first module. There were places where you could not tell where a wall was, so a redrawing will come in handy...

Check Out CURSE OF STRAHD'S Table of Contents!

I just hope they are able to get to Castle Ravenloft. I'm guessing they won't start at level 1 unless they want to play every week for the rest of the year.

Want To See The Castle Ravenloft Poster Map In CURSE OF STRAHD?

I'm tempted to let the players find the blueprints of the castle so I don't have to deal with mapping. Unfortunately I would not want them to know about the secret doors, so I could not just toss this map on the table. I'm wondering if Gale Force 9 will have a DM screen with this map on one...

One of the pages is a map, so maybe a lot of art and conclusion information?

Check Out CURSE OF STRAHD'S Table of Contents!

People ran Ravenloft when it was just one module with about 30 pages. It it still considered one of the best adventures of all time. If you look at the table of contents you can see that chapter two is all about the setting and each area that you explore has it's own details in the chapter...

D&D 5E How do you keep your players going from "goblins to gods" in your games?

My homebrew world maxes out at level 10. It's part of the lore that any player or NPC that goes over level 10 goes mad and becomes a danger to everyone. That keeps the players feeling like they are powerful enough to make a difference in the world and not have to deal with Lancealots or...

I was thinking the same thing. Back when the modules were not hardbound I had no issues cutting the pages out or loosening the staples and pulling the handout pages out, but I don't want to cut pages out of a book. Maybe they will be perforated like the fold out map.

    New background; Surface Drow

A more expropriate way to say the the drow is not an underground drow is to let the player give up his spells and reduce his night vision to 60 feet. He could always just use the wood elf features and keep the drow appearance. Letting someone get rid of their racial disadvantages with a...

Check Out CURSE OF STRAHD'S Table of Contents!

I'm not sure how much character creation extras they could add to a Ravenloft adventure. I would not want to see playable revenants or vampires, and are there spells that we don't already have that would fit in a Ravenloft adventure? Maybe they could add a 'monster hunter' subclass for...

Check Out CURSE OF STRAHD'S Table of Contents!

What jumped out at me was the handouts. I've always loved physical items with adventures. I bought every 4E Essentials product for the stuff in the box, but I had nothing but the core books before that. I'm also interested in seeing what the changes are for magic in Barovia.

D&D 5E Mike Schley made the Death House Maps available for free

That's cool. I love his maps. I don't play online anymore, but having a printable map could come in handy.

    D&D 5E Ravenloft= Meh

Why would we use Barovia after Strahd is dealt with? This is not a campaign setting any more than HotDQ was. This is an adventure that takes you from 1-10. What you do after you've dealt with Strahd is up to the party and DM. You can start a new adventure in another campaign setting or have the...

    D&D 5E Ravenloft= Meh

What I like about this is that it starts from level 1, so the DM can make the characters be from anywhere. I don't think that having level 1 characters come from The Forgotten Realms would be the best way to go. I think a better starting world would be a low magic one where anything over level...

    D&D 5E Ravenloft= Meh

I guess that a lot depends on the expectations of the players. If the previous adventure had the party fighting off waves of werewolves, and then that's followed by an adventure revolving around one lycanthrope, it may not be that interesting to the party. Personally I like to make every bad...

    D&D 5E Ravenloft= Meh

I like how Ravenloft makes D&D feel like a different game. I'm listening to the podcast where the Board With Life guys play D&D. They were playing a homebrew campaign and it felt pretty standard where people moved from place to place overcoming challenges. They decided to play the original...

D&D 5E How to run Death House without killing your entire party

Here's what I think (spoilers for those who plan to be a player for the adventure): I thought about that as well. I'm thinking that since the basement is not in the shape of the house that it was dug out after the construction. The only place the floor would be thin enough to break into the...
