Lead the Attack vs. solo monsters: unbalancing?

My whole point is : its not about whether or not they saved their dailies, its about whether this ONE daily hits. Yeah, i like awesome too. But 4E claimed it wanted to (and did a great job) approach balance. Like morrus said, what makes 4E awesome is that you as a DM can use strategy and try...

Lead the Attack vs. solo monsters: unbalancing?

OK this is interesting, I am new to 4E so I wasnt aware of this- where is this explained in the core rulebooks? I guess it would take it from unbalancing to friking awesome. Again, this argument ignores this basic fact: If it is a FAIR fight without this power, its an EASY one if it hits...

Lead the Attack vs. solo monsters: unbalancing?

Daily powers are strong, but should not be win buttons. The 18 isnt terribly expensive with a racial bonus. A 16 is fairly cheap with a racial, and a +4 is almost as encounter breaking. So not having a warlord=not knowing how to work together? I dont see how it balances it out. Any solo...

Lead the Attack vs. solo monsters: unbalancing?

This is a warlord daily, level 1. Lead the attack, STR vs AC, 3[w] damage, until the end of the ENCOUNTER, each ally in a 5 square radius gains a power bonus on attack rolls of 1+int mod. So if a warlord with int 18 hits, the party will have +5 to attack against this enemy for the rest of the...

How To Kill An Adult Black Dragon Without Dying Of Boredom

yeah but cant you only swap powers when leveling? I dont think they could choose their powers assuming they would fight a dragon. as for all the math, it assumes every char gets to make an attack every turn. from the description in the OP, it looks like thats not how it plays out.

Why the obsession with archer Fighters?

I think its mostly because in 3.5, the difference between a ranger and a fighter was mostly in the feats. now its all in the powers.

More statistics from the Monster Manual -- attacks

interesting. anyone know how a characters defenses progress over these levels?

Classes which need 2 stats to hit

So I am having a very hard time with the point buying, esp for classes whose powers are split over 2 abilities when it comes to landing shots. Only 1 class/race can have both +2 apply to-hit, and thats the d-born palladin. But that is also the most MAD class anyways. Taking 16,16 i find I can...

    Dragonborn, Wintertouched & Lasting Frost

the fact that the DM would consider doing that tells you its broken. I def. think a winter/frost party with 2 dragonborns and a wizard would hands-down be better than the average party- open with 3 AOE frost attacks, then clean up. You get to keep combat advantage while holding formation, and...

    Dragonborn Paladin starting stats

I prefer taking 18 str, 18 cha, 12 wis and 12 con. d-born pally is the only race/class which can take 18's in both main attack stats. the cha lets you multi into warlock. the breath is a nice encounter power, esp with the feat to make it 5 by 5. thats the most versatile char i can think...

    Dragonborn, Wintertouched & Lasting Frost

I think the winter/frost combo can be overpowered if the whole party is using cold weapons and attacks. ranger's twin strike deals 10 more? nice. against a solo monster, everyone ALWAYS has combat advantage and ALWAYS does 5 more per hit. seems like its worth 2 feats, esp considering they...

    Multiclass Feat Weirdness?

I think healing word is one of the best encounter bonus powers from the multiclass feat- compare it to hunters quarry, an extra d6 damage if you hit. whoppe. in combat, the number of healing surges is usually not the constraint, its the amount of times one is allowed to use it.

UBER Dragonborn Fighter or Paladin Defender...we can build him!

either pick STR or CHA and keep wis decent. or take 18s in str and cha and dump wis. If you want to hit with both powers, you will need to have weak lay on hands. you keep asking for the most uber build but you dont say what you want to do with it. specify some roles.

    Poisons? You're kidding right?

you are forgetting that characters gain power in a linear manner, while the economy goes up geometrically. the econ could have been better imo.

Is there a reason you do not take a multi-class feat

the ranger one is weak- it is only supposed to last 1 turn, not the encounter. thats why the warlord/cleric ones are the best.

Paladin at negative hit points/divine challenge

I would say the challenge ends. the "hit me or suffer" thing is a divine threat, and the pally is no longer a threat.

    Twin Strike question

not to mention, it lets you kill 2 minions. my question is: does a dwarf with twin strike holding 2 handaxes who has taken dwarven weapon prof. add +2 to the damage?
