    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5- Need help making a Vampire lord

I think just giving class combinations is going about this the wrong way (but Jester Canuck has the best one with Blackguard). What kind of vampire is it? What is your setting like? How are they meeting this vamp- it's lair? Did it hunt them? Are it's minions around? Is this fight going to be...

    Favorite Mage build

To expand my build from before: I got lucky and rolled an 18 and 16. 18 went to Cha, 16 to Dex so I had two 18s in my stats. basically everything else was 11-13. Also note, I rolled terribly for my HP. Multiple levels involved 2 or 3 hp. Getting 5 in one level was mind blowing. Feats: Improved...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5- Need help making a Vampire lord

I would second the Factotum, except it is in the Dungeonscape book. If you go with Complete Warrior, I like the Hexblade for being able to really cause problems. Here is link to an excellent guide for making the Hexblade work. I think it would be a solid way to challenge the party.

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5- Need help making a Vampire lord

Warblade or Swordsage. Warblade is probably best for brutality. Elegance is supposed to be the swordsage's thing. Crusader could work, but for going against a party I don't think it's defensive options will do enough. I would just smash into the party with a warblade and make them cry. Assassin...

    Favorite Mage build

I've wanted to play a war weaver ever since I got Heroes of Battle.

    Favorite Mage build

I played a halfling sorcerer once, in an Eberron game. I traded my familiar for the metamagic sorcerer variant so that I wasn't gimped by the full round crap. Then I took almost every single battlefield control spell that I could spam every encounter. There were a bunch of encounters that ended...

    Freelancer Best Practices

Good article, and good advice in general. "Say Yes" is a good way to make things happen. "Be Honest" is a good way to prevent problems. Paying attention to how it affects someone else is a great life skill. Being aware of costs and deadlines happens in a lot of businesses. So overall, great!

What's the Best ERA for Running a Game Set in Middle-earth?

I think the Third Age after The Hobbit but before Lord of the Rings works very well. There is an enemy growing, the Wilderlands to civilize, beornings, orcs, spiders, and lots of other things that can cause problems for the party to run into.

Using long passage of time successfully...examples?

Did you really have a year of game time pass between each session or did you mean each adventure? Also was each adventure worth a level? I really like this idea, and I'd love to try something similar. I just want clarification because taking 50-80 years to reach level 20 seems a bit long. 20...

    Improving a Dragon's DR

Could you just go back to 3e's version of DR*? Something like DR 20/+3. This doesn't mess around with the DR, but it does make the PCs choose how they want their magic attacks. In 3.5 I've always seen players keep a +1 weapon and add as much magic as possible to the thing. It becomes a +1...

What if everyone was a monk?

If you go with the idea of monks having fighting styles from Unearthed Arcana, you can have different clans teaching different techniques. Even though everyone is lawful, they still have different opinions and may even go to war if they see no better option. This isn't really that variant, and...

Pathfinder 1E New to pathfinder. starting at level 10. Help pls! :D

I would start here. Paladins are typically melee combatants, almost always. You'll have a mount, who can be helpful- or a big pain in cramped quarters*. You don't need to be super zealous and one-dimensional in a fight against evil; you can have doubts, trust issues, and questions about what is...

Intro: New player on the board, and to the game!

Tables truly are the most dangerous weapon of war. Welcome to EN World! If you and your friend end up wanting more people, aside from your local game store, I recommend Gamers Seeking Gamers. It can help you find stores, groups, and gamers in your area.

Using long passage of time successfully...examples?

I think the time jump usage should vary with genre and level. Any thing with long amount of travel (sci-fi/sailing)- time jump High level play where PCs have non-adventure related obligations- time jump Low level- no jumps, because a long jump could/should have a level up Contract based game-...

    [October] What are you reading?

The short version is that when I read things like The Prince or The Art of War or the type of books read in literature classes they view it as being arrogant, or being an ass. This has been building up for a couple year and since graduating in May, it has gotten worse.

    Slow boards/site?

I have also been having the boards load very slowly. The only good thing about this is that I've started to exercise while waiting for everything to load. Now I can talk about gaming and get a workout.

    Iron Man vs. Thor

Most of the fights went about how I expected them. I really enjoyed Captain America's reply to Thor being a god, "There's only one god, Ma'am, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." In general, I thought there was a great deal of characterization in the fights-a lot more than most...

    [October] What are you reading?

I'm reading A Game of Thrones because I am late to the Song of Ice and Fire series, very late. Really enjoying it so far, and about half way. I'm also working on Machiavelli's The Prince. I just want to read it and I don't have a great reason. I've blasted through book 1 of the Dresden Files...

Pathfinder 1E Discussion: Removing Deities & Gods

If you like the idea of removing the "godfearing" classes (with deities active, everyone should be a little godfearing or they're crazy) , then do that. In my experience, one of the best ways to convey the feel of a world is through class limitations and changes. If no clerics exist, it really...
