Guild Wars is everything DDO should have been

Amusingly enough, almost all of the people I know who play Guild Wars are married couples. But you're right, GW is NOT what DDO should have been. I liked the cut of DDO's jib, but it's implementation just didn't work for us. I know several of my players who tried it and thought it was 'ok'...

    Wrong facts about D&D3 combat?

I've run my players through three campaigns under 3e, and we've played through three other one-off campaigns at the same time. Our main game ran from 1st straight on through to 28th level, from 3e to 3.5e. Our Shackled City game went from 1st to 11th, Our Rise of the Runelords game...

    Gencon 2009 Indy

Afraid I'm going to have to pass, this year. The family and I had to choose between Gencon and Origins...and we have a LOT more friends who make Origins. Plus Origins is a little more family friendly, geographically closer to us and somewhat less expensive. It wasn't an easy choice, but there...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Oh, right...Mr. "I didn't make them destroy the town, I just put a wand of fireballs in the pyromaniac's hands is all". You're totally innocent. ;)

Stupid Question of the Day: Rituals

Excellent, that's what I thought. Kordeth and fba827, thank you.

Stupid Question of the Day: Rituals

Since I'm at work and have neither my DMG nor PHB in front of me, a straight-forward question (I hope): what kind of access, by default, do players have to Rituals? Setting aside the issue of what a DM provides, I'm mostly looking to understand how players get them, if it's specified within...

DDI: does it not support Firefox?

Odd, now it works fine for me. Not sure why, but it kept losing my log-in informatin and was giving me problems opening PDFs for a bit. The next day, it worked fine. Go figure. [shrug]

    Please cure my 4e illiteracy

Well, I can't speak for other folks, but I know it's clear for me, now. Thanks, much. That's great stuff, really.

Maybe he means that it's not likely the BryonD is going to accept Mallus' suggestion.

DDI: does it not support Firefox?

I am. It works for parts of the site, but not others. I'll have to test it here at home on Chrome and Firefox and see how it does.

DDI: does it not support Firefox?

I signed up for the DDI earlier this week and it seemed to work OK when I wanted to browse the Warden article or use the Compendium...but when I went to open an adventure in Dungeon or download the PDF of the issue, I got a pop-up saying I needed to be a DDI subscriber. Since I AM, that was a...

Guild Wars is everything DDO should have been

My wife and I currently have Prophecies, Nightfall and Eye of the North (as well as the bonus mission pack). Nightfall is the best overall game, IMHO, while Eye of the North reflects the changes you find. Prophecies has some nice missions to it, and the story is decent...but the overland areas...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. I promised myself we'd finish our 3.5 "Rise of the Runelords" game before I start my 4e campaign. I promised myself we'd finish our 3.5 "Rise of the Runelords" game before I start my 4e campaign. I promised myself we'd finish our 3.5 "Rise of the Runelords" game...

6 months later: impressions of 4e

4e, at least on the surface, appears to do that better than 3e/3.5e, IMHO. If you ignore the powers, then the situation is, at worst, the same. The powers themselves, however, are far less esoteric. In our last game, even after NINE YEARS OF NEARLY WEEKLY GAMES, we still had to look up some...

    Misconceptions about 3.5...Answers

I'm not really sure what the Duskblade has to do with what I said. Are you sure you were replying to me, and not the person who actually mentioned the Duskblade? UA being in the SRD isn't really legerdemain to my point, either. I'm not arguing anything about the rules, but about your...

6 months later: impressions of 4e

One thing you haven't factored in to the new edition is the changes in WotC staff in the past several years. 3.5 itself reflected the design goals of a different team and of a team that had considerably more time to asses the workings of the system. 4e's approach certainly reflects a different...

    Misconceptions about 3.5...Answers

Well, no, that's different. Some of your examples are mechanics that run directly counter to the core design of 3.5, while the other is an option that fits directly into the core design. Saying 4e doesn't support a Gish class is the exact same thing as saying 3.5e doesn't support a Gish class...

    Misconceptions about 3.5...Answers

I personally wouldn't classify that as a misconception, as much as say that a set of alternate rules existed in a book for 3.5 that you could use. It's no more correct than saying 3.5 used hit points and then saying that Unearthed Arcana had alternate damage rules. It's technically true, but I...

We only started seeing TV commercials for WoW when they got into the 9 Million+ range of players. TV has never been that great a vector to attract new players, on a bang-for-your-buck basis, from what I recall hearing. Print ads in video game magazines, comic books and other publications often...
