D&D General An Appreciation of David "Zeb" Cook

I have no idea. Is this true? Still a unique setting either way.

D&D General An Appreciation of David "Zeb" Cook

Recall the names? I'm coming back to D&D after about 25yrs+ away and having the best time running LMoP and SKT, but I would drop it all if I could run 5e games in Krynn. The conversion work is just too much for me atm. Anyway, yeah, that Time of the Dragon box left a long, lasting impression on...

D&D General An Appreciation of David "Zeb" Cook

Oh man, I was a big DL head back in the 80s-early 90s. That Taladas box blew me away. It was so foreign and different to anything I knew about Krynn. I loved those little culture sheets and I made so many characters for that setting...but never actually got to play there. Where there ever any...

D&D 5E SKT: Bryn Shander, Goldenfields, or Triboar?

I'm going to be running SKT for two groups (one doing 1-5 in LMoP, the other via SKT) and the two will join up in Chapter 2. Looking over the three, I'm leaning toward Triboar and Bryn Shander, but I'm curious what experience others have had with this chapter of the campaign. Which town had the...

D&D 5E Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

My understanding is that the full-time D&D staff within WotC is very small and most of the work done is freelance. I also don't know this individual or their work at all, but maybe there just weren't any projects that aligned with their skillset, or they just weren't a good fit? Happens all the...

WotC Dungeons & Dragons Fans Seek Removal of Oriental Adventures From Online Marketplace

It seems RPGs in general are on shaky ground if we, as a society, decide to keep going down this path where identity is our defining trait. I mean, by nature RPGs are games where the participants play with identities. How identities are used by the players is drawn from the players' experience...

    D&D 5E Critical Hit Decks?

Looks like there was a neat little deck of cards for 4e that made coming up with various Critical Hits easy. I see they were made by Paizo, but there's some Nord Games one also. Any difference? Which is best to convert to 5e?

    Whiteboard Alternatives (Mac)

Anyone have a suggestion for a good alternative to Microsoft Whiteboard? I'm using a Mac and don't need anything fancy. Just something to doodle a few encounter features, not heavy map making. One feature I would like though...say I had an image, I'd like to run some grey over it, then use an...

D&D 5E What's the largest number of PCs you've had in a session?

I'm curious how you find less than 4 equating to more work?

D&D 5E What's the largest number of PCs you've had in a session?

Sorry, if there was confusion. one player = one character. Party A has four characters, Party B has two or three. Some sessions...hopefully not too many...will have both parties together, so potentially seven characters (seven people). This will all be on Zoom.

    D&D 5E Tips for SKT - 2 parties, 1 game

I can even have a few PCs die in SKT (but get raised), then have the next campaign be Tomb of Annihilation with the next generation of heroes going to Chult to save the heroes that saved Faerun in SKT. The hexcrawl in ToA also can use multiple parties running around. I can even have the two...

D&D 5E What's the largest number of PCs you've had in a session?

I do run Theater of the Mind games, so I anticipate that will continue to help keep combat brisk even if the player count is larger than I'd like.

D&D 5E What's the largest number of PCs you've had in a session?

I'm considering running two separate groups through Storm King's Thunder at the same time and they would cross paths a few times, but pretty much end up playing the campaign in parallel. The combined sessions would end up with 7-8 players though. Ugh, that's a lot. I prefer 3 in a group. 4 max...

    D&D 5E Tips for SKT - 2 parties, 1 game

Oh, wow, re-reading though the SKT book last night...almost every chapter has multiple branches with only one used in a given campaign. I could pretty much run two parties/campaigns in parallel with a few chance encounters together. maybe some of Chapter 3 and the Finale. My first group is...

    D&D 5E Tips for SKT - 2 parties, 1 game

So, I have a group working through LMoP then will hit Storm King's Thunder. I have a second group of players that also want to game, but I don't have the bandwidth to run two different online campaigns. So, I'm thinking about having this second group join the first at the 5th level entry point...

D&D 5E Magic Items for a Monk Character?

One of the players in my group is switching over to a Monk, but the adventure (LMoP) I'm running doesn't seem to offer a lot of treasure for that class. What sort of magic items work for this class that won't negate their abilities? Are Gauntlets considered armor? I mean, they need to stay...

    D&D 5E Best 5e Adventures for Kids v Adults

So, I find myself getting ready to run two different groups through 5e. One is made up of three adults, the other four middle school kids and one other parent. The kid group halfway through with Mines of Phandelver and I plan to continue them into Storm Kings Thunder. When SKT is over...I'm not...
