D&D 5E Revisiting Mearls and Co

On one podcast with the Penny Arcade guys Mearls sounded really enthusiastic about fighters' expertise dice, but I'm not sure if those are gone or just moved to a subclass.

D&D 5E D&D 5e Basic Set: Things that make you go "what?!"

So a War Elephant would be around 1600 GP? Not bad.

    D&D 5E Legen Lore 7/14/2014

They could probably get away with a few generic listings by size category as well. "Tiny Animal", "Small Animal", "Huge Animal", etc.

    D&D 5E Legen Lore 7/14/2014

Dire Animals are too iconic to leave out, IMO. Faerie dragons were in the 3e MM, right? I think they'd want to include a few dragon-ish creatures like those and wyverns just to illustrate how different the iconic dragons are.

    D&D 5E Remathilis's 5e Starter Set Report

Yes, you should add your proficiency bonus to the attack. Your proficiency bonus applies to many of the numbers you’ll be recording on your character sheet: • Attack rolls using weapons you’re proficient with • Attack rolls with spells you cast • Ability checks using skills you’re proficient in...

High Elf would work, for the free cantrip.

D&D 5E forget classes, i want more backgrounds

The special feature is the tough bit. The more examples we have to draw from, the better.

D&D 5E D&D 5e Basic Set: Things that make you go "what?!"

Consider that the cantrips actually deal less damage than a simple crossbow/longbow once you factor in dex mod. I for one, am happy to see 1d3 cantrips and 1d4 1st level spells dead and gone.

    D&D 5E D&D Comics Teaser Image

"Camaraderie, adventure, and steel on steel. The stuff of legends, right Boo?" Are they really bringing Minsc back? Awesome. For myself, and I'm sure plenty of others, Baldur's Gate served as an introduction to the concepts and mechanics of D&D, though I didn't play the real game until 3rd.

D&D 5E so, mountain dwarf wizards...

One reason I like the ability score cap is because you can start with a character that is a little behind in his "most important" score and still catch up.

D&D 5E Retraining (players, not characters)

No more confirming criticals means I can get excited about seeing 20 again. :D:D

D&D 5E First Basic Game: Fun With Backgrounds (And Not Much Else)

Don't forget that certain evil creatures are weak to Sacred Flame's radiant damage. EDIT: Actually on second look they aren't. I could have sworn undead had a weakness to radiance... EDIT 2: Ok, Vampires from the playtest were vulnerable to radiant, not other undead.

D&D 5E Retraining (players, not characters)

It's pretty simple. Normally on your turn you have a move and an action. Some things, like the Rogue's Cunning Action, give you a bonus action, but you can only have one per turn. It's like a minor action, except you can only take it if something specifically says you can.

    D&D 5E Math v Character

It really depends on your group. When I played 3.5, which everyone will tell you is ruled by clerics and wizards, my groups were never really interested in playing casters. At most we'd tend to have an arcane/melee hybrid, or a fighter with a few cleric levels. We had a lot of non-standard group...

    D&D 5E Starter Set pre-gens in PDF?

@Trevor_WotC Hey, there's no chance we could get the Starter Set characters in PDF, is there? Forgot to scan mine before using them. @koga305 Yeah, we'll get them on the website later this month.

I like that the "similar threads" box has a post you made about 4th edition that's almost exactly the same. :p

    * Any High Elf with Minor Illusion as their cantrip.

    D&D 5E Katana in 5th edition - finesse?

I expect to see a fair amount of Elf clerics favoring strength and longswords.
