Well, no matter what I say to him, he doesn't see his character that way.

That's not a problem with one of my players. His character is a Rogue Thief, and he doesn't believe in heroism, so he would like to steal all the useless junk he can get his hands on.

I did one adventure, as a beginner DM, where I let my players loot monsters that they kill of their weapons and armor, but they can only sell it for 1/4 of the original price. They still ended up getting too much money, so I stopped doing that, but I want know how other people do looting...

I see your point, but there is a large difference between armor and weapons. While you can only have proficiency in three different types of armor, you can have proficiency in any weapon. Also, none of my players expect a "make-up" for wasted features, but since they only decide class and race...

But, with that in mind I think a Way of the Open Hand Monk Tortle would be pretty close to Master Oogway.

I didn't think about shadow monk tortles, but yeah that does sound like TMNT.

I whole-heartedly agree. Tortle Monks wouldn't be a teenage mutant ninja turtle, that would have to be a Tortle Rogue. And a Tortle Monk is just a good combination of class and race, and I don't think any classes or races should be disallowed for any reason, regardless of the circumstance.

Tortle Monk seems pretty themed to me, especially considering I named him Master Oogway.

I'm making a Monk Tortle, and two skills contradict each other. Tortles have the skill natural armor, giving them a base AC of 17, they can't wear armor, and you don't add the DEX Mod. Monks have the skill Unarmored Defense, giving them an AC equal to 10+ DEX Mod + WIS Mod. What do I do?

Well, I'm planning on doing waterdeep dragon heist adventure with them, and it doesn't have a whole bunch of monsters.

I DM with my friends in high school, and I find it hard to keep their attention. Does anybody have any advice?

Just writing it down, using a pencil really is the best way to make a character sheet. Last summer I spent the entire time just making random characters for no reason. It really changed me.
