I try to be as descriptive as possible, but in the end it always reverts back to "Ok,you hit." One of my players really enjoys describing how his monk kicks butt. So, I just let him have fun and try to keep up (without taking away from the other players of course).:) I find it very exciting...

A good reason for the absence of clerics in the original fantasy literature was probably because it was too taboo. Wizards are enough, but try to introduce readers (at the time) to worshipers of fictitious gods, who grant them spells! D&D had a rough start in the beginning for that same reason...
