I agree that a doppleganger should work fine at ECL 6 (that is LA +2), but be a bit careful about Detect Thoughts at will. It tends to annoy DMs if used indiscriminately.

Kingdoms of Kalamar, hands down. I did like the Stard Drive and Dark Matter settings. I'm consdiering mixing Dark Matter with Second World (from second world simulations).

Might even make that perform vs Spot or Sense Motive. You're acting in a way aren't you. Death scenes are staple in many plays... ;)
