I'm beginning to dislike Netflix (re: Archive 81, 1899, Warrior Nun etc cancellations)

What do you mean by "legit?" I was merely referring to popularity - pointing out that Hancock is relatively well-known.

LOL, I completely disagree about your take on Graham Hancock - which is clearly lacking in any actual exposure to his ideas, beyond (I'm guessing) a cursory viewing of a few minutes of his documentary. Hogwash, in other words! It is ironic that you accuse him of "baseless" theories and then...

WotC: We Are Not Making AI Dungeon Masters

This. Everything circles back to this, and everything else is window-dressing - a bit of a distraction from what they really want to do, and want to hide that they're doing - and also, and most importantly, what impacts the larger RPG publishing world.

WotC Talks OGL... Again! Draft Coming Jan 20th With Feedback Survey; v1 De-Auth Still On

My guess is that they'll treat the OGL like they're treating D&D - there are no versions, no editions, just One D&D to Rule Them All that gets updates in many small iterations....and one OGL that is updated, and becomes the new and only OGL. So I'm guessing there will be no "OGL 1.0" and "OGL...

I think they got what they wanted

What is the "community," though? For all we know, the only people who are outraged are old-timers - or, at least, outrage may be heavily skewed towards older players, especially those for whom the arrival of the OGL is still a first-hand memory - so we're talking about Millenials and older. The...

Linda Codega interview at Graphic Policy

Not to be picky, but it is CODEGA (no R). Just in case someone does a search, or she comes by...

I think they got what they wanted

Yes, agreed. But we know the smaller "they" is still there, and to be honest, I feel for them. Must be a hard place to be in. I do wonder if we're going to see an exodus at some point. Probably not, as they've still got it pretty good, but it could happen.

The Moral of the Story Is....Maybe there's such a thing as (D&D being) too big

I remember a year or two ago, when we were all basking in the glow of D&D's unparalleled popularity. Some of us remember the Golden Age of the early 80s, when D&D experienced a similar-in-kind cultural blossoming, though in an era before the internet, and probably to a smaller degree, even...

I think they got what they wanted

I think this is where there's no monolithic "they." If we mean the creative team at WotC--the D&D department--I'm sure "they" knew the new OGL wouldn't go over well, and probably warned higher-ups. If we mean the corporate suits at Hasbro, then "they" only care insofar as the money keeps rolling...

D&D (2024) Change in Charisma Description

If you want beauty to be a part of CHA at your table, go for it. What else is there to say about that? But...because, like the rest of us here at ENWorld, I'm overly verbose and opinionated, one thing to keep in mind is that each of the ability scores is a gestalt of different qualities, and...

D&D (2024) New leak looks real bad

You can certain if you want, but I am not. As for 50M, it made press a year and a half ago, so it should be well over that by now. But for example: https://www.gamespress.com/2020-Was-The-Best-Year-Ever-for-Dungeons-Dragons---Again

D&D (2024) New leak looks real bad

I'm just providing a range, depending upon how many people subscribe. I have no idea what is realistic, but obviously WotC will be going for as many as possible. I'm not sure 5 million is unrealistic, as far as long-term plans. Again, there are supposedly 50 million players - so that's 10%. What...

D&D (2024) New leak looks real bad

Consider how this could add up for WotC: 100,000 full subscribers: $36 million per year. 250,000 full subscribers: $90 million per year. 500,000 full subscribers: $180 million per year. 1,000,000 full subscribers: $360 million per year. 5,000,000 full subscribers: $1.8 billion per year. If...

I'm beginning to dislike Netflix (re: Archive 81, 1899, Warrior Nun etc cancellations)

This is true of book series, as well. The majority of popular ones don't start as insta-hits; something like Name of the Wind is an exception, not the rule (and that was problematic because it was so hyped, and then so popular, and then the author fritzed the series). I read Wheel of Time...

That's actually one of the things I like about Euro shows - the (generally) slower pacing.

Haha, true, true. I guess I saw "sow" and thought "cow." Well, that makes me reconsider giving 1899 a shot.

I'm beginning to dislike Netflix (re: Archive 81, 1899, Warrior Nun etc cancellations)

Which begs the question: What did sows ever do to Netflix? Moo too loudly? On a serious note, this is useful information, but it leaves out a crucial part: how many of those shows were conceived of as episodic vs. parts of a singular story told over multiple seasons? 1899 ended on a...

I'm beginning to dislike Netflix (re: Archive 81, 1899, Warrior Nun etc cancellations)

Sure, though I'm not sure how this means I'm "also not right." Meaning, how does this conflict with what I wrote? But yeah, one of Netflix's saving graces is their "emphasis on foreign TV," which works for folks like me who like Nordic Noir and rando European supernatural thrillers like Black...
