    D&D 5E (2014) Interrupting a Long Rest

While Mearls doesn't give official answers on the intention of rules or their intended function as written, Crawford does, and in this tweet has stated entirely clearly that a long rest isn't interrupted by a normal-length combat.

D&D 5E (2014) Good news! The RAW answer to: "When does a rest end?"

A tautology is not the RAW answer as to when a long rest ends - it's ignoring that no answer is given by the RAW. Because yes, you regain your resources at the end of the rest, but when is that?.

D&D 5E (2014) Separating challenge and complexity in monster design

I'd prohibit part of that move. Specifically the asking for an Acrobatics check part, because I prefer players telling me what their character does without assumption as to how I am going to resolve it, which in this case would probably be without a roll of any kind because there isn't anything...

    D&D 5E (2014) Push enemy questions

I'd handle the shove or thunderwave as normal mechanically - no disadvantage or advantage on the rolls just because of the ship having a railing. Where the railing or other ship bits would come into play is in the description of successfully resisting going overboard, such as a successful save...

D&D 5E (2014) When Fiends Attack: Are Balors, Pit Fiends and Ultraloths too weak?

Because my party, which feels "regular" to me and it is insulting if you are insisting they are "carebear", doesn't absolutely demolish Strahd as written, even when I'm not "burning braincells" while DMing, whatever that means (because I assume you aren't using that phrase to mean "putting any...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

...because what I was arguing against was that only having a stealth roll happen when it is resolving uncertainty changes how things go, so saying my scenario equally supports both the way it was written and assuming the unstated condition of making constant stealth checks, is clearly saying...

    D&D 5E (2014) Whatever "lore" is, it isn't "rules."

I thought this forum was about a real human game, not an imaginary elf one... Though I am now going to spend some serious time thinking of a game that originates from the elves in one or more of the settings I use, so thank you for that.

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

Unless that is you agreeing with me that only rolling when it actually matters doesn't negatively affect game-play, but does save time because it doesn't involve prompting for, making, and reporting as many die rolls, I'm entirely lost as to the relevance of your question.

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

Well, never make a roll unless it resolves uncertainty, but close enough I guess. I'm not disputing that the player knowing the roll actually matters will have some effect - I disputing that those effects are inherently negative, or even relevant, to the game-play experience.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bury corpses

transcendantviewer, please don't phrase your opinion as objective fact. Some of us DMs don't mind necromancy in the hands of PCs, have no problem threatening necromancer characters, and have no problem at all with handling the logistics of "an army of zombies."

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

As Bawylie pointed out, that's because while I'm talking about the player's knowledge not being relevant in determining the character's course of action, you and Ovinomancer are acting as if I'm talking about the character's knowledge not being relevant, which I am not because that is obviously...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

I don't find it to be even remotely like that. Actually, I come at it from the other side - the information isn't necessary in order to arrive at the choice, so worrying about whether or not the player has the information is attempting to police the thoughts of the player, rather than police...

D&D 5E (2014) Is there a market or any interest in something like this

I've bought some of Paizo's GameMastery Map Packs (little cards with 5':1" scale, I've specifically got the ships, shops, wizard tower, and graveyard sets), and re-use poster maps whenever I can, and have also purchased one of Paizo's flipmat things (forest). So yes, if the subject material is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bury corpses

That doesn't necessarily mean more than that the graveyard is not immediately relevant to the book the map is found in or the adventure that is assumed to be happening when the map is used.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bury corpses

How'd you notice that? Perhaps it's just my love of the old west and things macabre, but I've always assumed that any D&D settlement shown on a map that doesn't have a cemetery/graveyard on the map has one on a nearby hill just off the edge of the map a short ways, like happened a lot in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Highest Quality D&D 5e 3rd party publishers?

I would say that a second look is in order. I don't necessarily think that all of what you didn't like about that adventure is absent from their other products, but I do know that they were putting that adventure together while the game wasn't quite finished and finalized yet, so there are...

D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Stealth - If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.???

I'll second what Bawylie said on the matter, and add this: It doesn't actually matter if you are telling the player there are creatures nearby, as that knowledge doesn't change what actions are possible for the character to take. All actions remain as they were, either something the character...

    D&D 5E (2014) Highest Quality D&D 5e 3rd party publishers?

I can give a thumbs up for Kobold Press as well, and a provisional thumbs up to Frog God Games, because their products are relatively well put together but there are some rough spots (example: their Book of Lost Spells includes spells which do ability score damage even though that is...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Questionnaire

Thank you for existing. People always act like I'm being some kind of jerk when I mention that the core game of 5th edition is free, and all the stuff WotC put a price tag on are expansion materials, because they think that no one like you actually exists.

D&D 5E (2014) If you've ever left D&D, what made you come back?

It entirely depends upon how one defines "left D&D" as to whether I've left or not, so here's the relevant details to figure it out: When 4th edition was being teased in online articles, and those fluffy little books I can't remember the titles of leading up to the release, I announced that my...
