WotC New Card from "Adventures in the Forgotten Realms" Leaked: "Den of the Bugbear"

Ah—thanks for the info. I'm not an MTG player—this set will be my first time ever buying MTG cards. There's a lot to learn. I'm not sure what you mean by "not printed on the card," though—do you mean the text "levels 17–20" doesn't count as printed on the card because it's outside the usual...

WotC New Card from "Adventures in the Forgotten Realms" Leaked: "Den of the Bugbear"

I wonder if it's possible that "leveling up" your cards is a new mechanic in this set? Many of the recent D&D-themed non-RPG games have tried to implement some sort of leveling up mechanic. Off the top of my head, the D&D Adventure System board games, Dragonfire, and Dice Masters all have done...

D&D 5E (2014) What of the already done settings do you think WotC is revisiting for a Setting Book?

I voted FR but I think Exandria is a very close second in terms of likelihood. (They're not remotely close in terms of desirability; a new FRCS is one of my top "wants" for 5e, whereas a second Exandria setting book might well end up being the first WotC 5e hardcover I would pass on.)

D&D 5E (2014) Ellywick Tumblestrum's Ballads of the Forgotten Realms (hypothetical FR Setting Book)

I agree with every word of this—and that’s exactly why I hope they would cover the Sword Coast in such a book, because this is not at all what SCAG (or really any other WotC book since 3e) does. On the other hand, given WotC’s current practices (for example, the fact that so much of Tasha’s...

    D&D 5E (2014) New WotC Survey! Learn About A New D&D Product!

Right after the survey asked me whether I had seen the top secret thing well enough to answer questions about it (to which I answered “yes”), it showed me the door. No clue why, unless perhaps it was my advanced age.

D&D 5E (2014) Check Out Wild Beyond the Witchlight's Back Cover & Text

I dont' think that's true—under US law, anyway. I'm not a lawyer, but I have had to study copyright and IP law as part of my job, and as understand it, the Bradbury estate wouldn't have to claim ownership over the phrase. They would only have to claim that the use of the phrase is meant to...

D&D 5E (2014) Check Out Wild Beyond the Witchlight's Back Cover & Text

Frankly, I’m surprised their lawyers OK’d so prominently featuring the actual title of the work they’re ripping off.

D&D 5E (2014) Witchlight Promo Video: Ellywick Tumblestrum

"I, Ellywick Tumblestrom . . . calls forth Legend Lore . . ." ". . . and there will be two portals with which mortals may use to enter it . . ." Maybe this character only recently acquired proficiency in Common?

D&D General I'm reading the Forgotten Realms Novels- #202 The Howling Delve by Jaleigh Johnson (Dungeons 2)

I think Cunningham is plainly one of the most talented authors ever to write in the Forgotten Realms. And her work is beloved (by those who do love it) in part because her approach is, as you note, rather different than that of many other FR authors. Her fight scenes often seem perfunctory...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Screen & Dungeon Kit

    That . . . that's an infinite number . . . my house won't even hold that many perforated squares with the numerals 1 through 9 printed on them . . . but I'll keep buying them . . . forever . . .

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Screen & Dungeon Kit

I thought the Wilderness Kit screen was decent—3 out of 5 stars—so I'll probably pick this up, too. But for the love of Gygax, just how many sets of punch-out numbers 1 through 9 does WotC think I need before I can properly track initiative?

WotC Check out Magic: the Gathering's Tiamat

Your story and mine are very similar. It seems to me that WotC doesn’t do a very good job of communicating to new players of my type—not the “I want to start playing MTG” type but the “I want to play this set and this one only” type. To be fair, this set is probably the first time they’ve ever...

D&D 5E (2014) "Big Summer Adventure" Drow related? Announcement imminent?

My own previous prediction was that the “drow problem” would be addressed either in the new Drizzt trilogy or in a big adventure this year or next, via this plot development (mild spoiler for almost every 5e WotC hardcover adventure and Frostmaiden in particular): I’m glad they didn’t go that...

D&D Movie/TV Is the D&D TV Show Based On Drizzt?

That’s some fine detective work, Morrus. I’d lay good money you’re right.

D&D 5E (2014) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms MtG set Planeswalkers confirmed.

Sort of—WotC tweeted out that the "planeswalker" cards in this set aren't MTG planeswalkers; in other words, in this set the term doesn't mean what it usually means in MTG lore (though the card functions the same way mechanically). Of course, Lolth can be a MTG planeswalker in your campaigns if...

D&D 5E (2014) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms MtG set Planeswalkers confirmed.

I doubt they can. Most of the Valar aren't named in The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings (not even in the appendices), and if an element in the legendarium is not named in those two books, WotC can't mention it unless they strike a separate license with the Tolkien Estate. Now, perhaps they will...

D&D 5E (2014) Adventures in the Forgotten Realms MtG set Planeswalkers confirmed.

I don't think we know how many planeswalkers there will be in the set, do we? Anyway, my money would be on Mordenkainen, Elminster, and Vi, in that order of likelihood. Of these, only Elminster is a shoo-in to appear in the set—but not necessarily as a planeswalker. Mordenkainen is a shoo-in to...
