Except for the invisibility spell, where they ARE using it to mean "you turn translucent"

You cannot possibly believe in good faith that invisible is meant to be interpreted "no one is looking at you at the moment" and not "you are naughty word invisible"

    I'm invisible all the time

WotC should write rules that are clear and don't require "fixes" on day 1 to function

I would not be surprised if they meant to remove it entirely and forgot

Gotta make it forwards compatible for the next dnd-based video game.

My understanding is that it looked different and different is bad.

Having a condition called "invisible" that does not include, as part of its effects, being invisible, is a pretty big design failure.

I maintain that JC should not have been put as design lead for d&d24. His obsession with RAW minutia per the sage advice twitter pushed 5e away from its design intent and made the system worse. Now d&d24 is written with RAW minutia in mind - and still has significant problems and things that...

Do you know what's included in that section? And yeah a lot of people when they say "exploration" mean "wilderness survival and overland travel", exclusively. Which is only one small part of it.

This is so stupid. WotC should not be printing rules which require rejection of common sense to function.

Idk I think Hide was reasonably Clear in 3.X. Like, not necessarily Good or Easy to Run at the Table, but it was at least obvious how it was supposed to work beyond making the GM figure everything out.

I didn't have "d&d2024 would de-emphasize the Exploration Pillar even harder than 5e does" on my bingo card. And yet, here we are.

I wonder if the text for the invisibility spell even explicitly makes it so you can't be seen

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

That's not what I'm referring to. I am specifically referencing a statement from Jeremy Crawford: "Beware of claims that a rule does something mentioned nowhere in that rule or elsewhere in the core books. There aren't secret rules." When you are analyzing a rule, it only does what it says it...

It doesn't say that. If you were meant to lose invisibility when you leave cover, it would say so. There's no "secret" rules in d&d - things do what they say they do and don't do what they don't say they do.

Anyways the real takeaway here is that WOTC has completely failed to create rules text for stealth that are easily understood and consistently interpreted the same way, despite having a decade to do so.

I think thats the goal: You have to roll at least a 15, even if the monster you're hiding from has a super low Passive perception (like say, 8). Its to set a Floor.
