The title superhero came from the miniatures game, Chainmail, and just meant tougher than hero figures. It has nothing to do with comics but the title always sounded off. 😁

@SlyFlourish, the GM in the SD game I played in did the same thing as you, but with Cursed Scroll #3. He said he had so much fun expanding on the zine. It turned into quite the epic, but with far fewer PC deaths. 😁 We played cautiously, and didn't taunt dragons, for example. 😂

I have too many sweet spots, which is not good for my finances! 😅

The flexibility is great. I used 5e Theros with pulp mode Shadiwdark and added in the God given feats from Theros with a bit of tweaking. I dropped the torch timer because it didn't fit the tone. I changed the xp system to "number of adventures" rather than treasures gained. Totally different...

In the core book. I'm not at home right now so can't get exact page number. It's a page with suggestions for different modes of play. We start with max hp and then roll for later levels. Not a suggestion in book but a common change.

I'm a big fan of this podcast. The banter is amusing, without getting boring. And I enjoy the reviews, which often steer me to products I hadn't heard of.

If you're aiming at kids, having a little math is great. Games are a perfect way for kids to strengthen their math while having fun, and it won't scare them away.

Oh, I know. I do this in other genres. I just struggle running super heroes, even though I've played and enjoyed supers games. Not exactly sure why. I'll probably try again some day. I do like Icons, Worlds in Peril, Marvel Cortex and I played a lot of FASERIP.

I hated dungeon crawls back in the day. It turned me right off D&D. Crawling through rooms and corridors poking every inch with a big stick. Going through the same routine upon entering every room. So boring! These days there are some really fun dungeons put out for the OSR/NSR. Gavin Norman...

I did think of another genre that I won't play: spies. Pretty sure I'd be hopeless at running one too. Super heroes keeps coming up in this thread. I enjoy playing supers games but I'm terrible at running them. Every time I've tried, I have no ideas. My villains just want to sit around...

Sci-fi horror. Don't care about the Alien franchise at all. Mothership is a great design but I don't want to play or run it. The other genre that leaves me cold is cyberpunk. I think those are the only 2 genres that really turn me off.

Yeah, it's all a bit unsettling. But I'm old. I know kids can be savage and I do love hearing Ben Milton's stories about running games for kids. They have no mercy. 😂 D&D violence is the not bloody kind. But this just feels like it might not have much room for the encounters to be anything but...

There is something unsettling about the bright and cheery graphics, aiming at more family friendly vibes, and.. gnolls. Gnolls that need to be slaughtered because if the party goes down, they'll be torn apart and eaten. I'm not sure this is the way to modernize "Keep on the Borderlands."

Now I'm wanting to make good gnolls. But more seriously, if gnolls are now fiends, there will not really be any incentive or perhaps even abity to negotiate. Any idea what other creatures are lurking in the caves?
