The Sort of TTRPGs You Want More (and Less) Of

Rules-complexity wise, something on any point of the spectrum between PF1 and GURPS. The lesser input from potential "tyrant GMs" the better, for me. Legal-freedom-wise, something on any point of the spectrum between OGL and CC-BY-SA. The lesser chance of having unpleasant lawyer meetings from...

D&D General Worlds of Design: A Question of Balance

Just try to avoid the Angel Summoner & BMX Bandit situation (unless agreed upon Session Zero) and then at least individual sessions should be salvaged from crashing. And no, after growing up with bountiful Wuxia influences despite not being a Chinese, I just flatly refuse to see "martials" as...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

So even the devs themselves do know how broken the 3.X Clerics were. Good to hear that, at least...

    TSR April 4th, 1984: TSR's 3rd Purge

So it wasn't just that Lorraine Williams person who was to blame, the entire Blume clan was. Well, figures... >:(

Abilities scores for an universtal system.

One thing I'm extremely sure of is, that I will split the fine motor stat and the general quickness stat ASAP. No more hideous God Dexterity/Agility in my vicinity... Anyway, my take on my "ideal" six would be Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Agility, Intellect, and Presence.

WOIN Half - Elves and Half - Orcs in O.L.D. Fantasy Heroic Roleplaying Game v.1.2?

I was disappointed that the final print draft didn't include those Clockwork species. I really wanted some fantasy robot butler assassin action create-able using only a single book...

Unearthed Arcana New Unearthed Arcana: Psionics!

Psionics should never be limited by the availability of a *tongue and/or *fingers. That's their biggest aesthetic selling point, anyways, for me. * (or other organs required for vocalizing sound based languages) ** (or other organs able to make weird complex movement in a spacial dimension)

    D&D 3.x 3E and the Feel of D&D

I generally prefer WAR's more "crispy" and "pop" art compared to the more, um, how do I describe this, "angsty" and "oil paint" works of the TSR era. Anyway, I wonder what exactly were the (usually bad) consequences to intra-class performance balance for the changes done between 2E and 3E.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the Fighter: The Zouave

It was pleasant, yeah. Now I want it to be OGL compliant and official, of course. (super-sincere)

Unearthed Arcana New UA: 43 D&D Class Feature Variants

Probably the best UA in years (though I missed many of them). Wish the final polished version is included in a probable SRD update, being OGL eligible.

D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the Fighter: The Zouave

(while not related to the OP class) Maybe all non-casters should have been merged into a single class, like a "Martialist," and given a ton of numeric bonuses for all things not spellcasting (HD size, save upgrades, # of proficiencies and the like) just to compete with spellcasters in the Out...

D&D General The Satanic Panic never really died?

Anti intellectualism is... a sin... (yes, intended sarcasm)

    D&D 5E (2024) Interested in new dragon designs for 5e (5.5e or 6e)?

It's based on a RL Chinese legend-based idiom which states that if a carp manages to swim up a certain point in the upper Yellow River (specifically, somewhere near the Longmen Grottoes), it instantly grows into a full-fledged dragon. BTW, the idiom itself means "a major chance for one's social...

D&D General Which ability score would you like to increase to 18 in real life?

Probably because of guns, I think. They make all physical strength obsolete in a maliciously hostile situation.

D&D 3.x Jonathan Tweet: Streamlining Third Edition

Plus the full-attack iterative -5/swing penalties, plus that 5 ft. sticky feet syndrome (why on earth do I get to move only 5 ft. if I swing my golf club twice or more).

D&D 5E (2014) What Seven Classes Would You Keep? (and why!)

I chose by mechanics first, fluff second; Barbarian (STR based, instinctual warrior) Cleric (WIS based, know entire spell list, received full caster) Monk (DEX based, wuxia genre enabler) Ranger (DEX based, methodical warrior, half caster) Sorcerer (CHA based, pure spontaneous, innate talent...

Yes, You Can Turn Your Campaign Into a Novel

In case of Japan, the huge success of Sword World actually made the so called "Replay" (novelized transcripts of gameplay) books the main source of income for their RPG industry. Despite the fact that said books actually seem to help attract new blood there, it's still very bizarre from an...

AD&D 2E What would you bring from PF2e to your 5e game?

    1. Put defined awesome abilities linked to each ability (skill) roll, as feats. I thought 5E already has some examples since core, though. 2. Yes, but they don't have definitive examples, like for example, a lenient DM might let you climb slippery walls on a 20, while another would barely let...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic missile as a cantrip

D&D was always stingy with force damage, especially free/cheap ones. Like, look at 5E's Eldritch Blast, it works very well for damaging baddies, but it's a sitting duck when you need some property demolition (it only damages creatures, not objects).
