RPG Print News – Exalted Funeral, Legendary Games, and More

Was Exalted Funeral a click bait? :p Edited: No, I was blind and did not see Slasher/Paranormal, hehehe.

    Worlds of Design: Imposter Syndrome

As GM, I suffer from the "thief's syndrom" rather than "impostor". I always feel as I am just stealing ideas from other places and not doing something original. Even when I twist old ideas to something breathing new, I still feel as "just stealing another people ideas".

RPG Evolution: Solving the Gnome Problem

In my homeworld, there is a place called Otherside, essentially a blend of Feywild with Dreamscape. Fey are creatures born in dreams, not necessarily dreams of mortals. Gnomes (but not elves) are fey creatures in this world. As such, they came from dreams. More to the point: exiled from dreams...

RPG Evolution: The Trouble with Halflings

Ok, but what make they REALLY distinct besides the size? Something that says, "wow, humans never would do able to do that in a biological way?"

RPG Evolution: The Trouble with Halflings

I am having the same trouble recently. In my actual campaign I decided make a clear distinction of the biological feel of races/ancestries/however you prefer to name them. Any race could be of any culture, so the way of thinking is not a factor here. A dwarf can be grumpy and workaholic as much...

    Game Design Masterclass: Ars Magica

Just a correction: 1 is rolled again and doubled. So, if you roll 1, and reroll a 6, it counts as a 12. If you roll a new 1, your reroll multiplying by 4. A new 1 will get a reroll multiplying by 8, and so on.

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Games Announces "Path of the Planebreaker" for 5E

If I am not mistaken, Monte said in an AMA that he would never work with Wizards again.

D&D 5E (2014) Cantrip nerf (house rule brainstorm)

Of course, mileage can vary among different parties, but in my table, it does not lead to more variety. Just to "pull dagger and attack or pull crossbow and attack" for most rounds, without any variation. In this case, I am very ok with spamming a cantrip for most rounds. If it is to repeat and...

D&D 5E (2014) Cantrip nerf (house rule brainstorm)

If you want to nerf cantrips, I would just remove the improved damage with improved caster level. A spamable at-will cantrip with basic damage is roughly equivalent to stop to cast spells and attack with a weapon, but more thematic to a caster.

RPG Print News – Golden Goblin Press, Onyx Publishing, and More

Hecata = Capadocian (Harbringers or not), Giovanni, Samedi, Nagaraja, Lamia, all as the same clan, but with some own peculiarities.

Worlds of Design: How Long Should Your Rulebook Be?

Yes, I already wrote four or five different RPG systems, but none with the idea of publishing. Just to take fun with my tabletop friends. Also, I think I do them just for the pleasure of do them and nothing more. A new working system is rewarding for my needs of dopamin hehe. Of course, not...

Worlds of Design: The Benefit of Experience

I just allow the characters level every five game sessions. Perhaps not the best method, but it is easy, without bookkeeping, and do not incentive the players to be killer-mobos or treasure hunters. Just "play the game".

    Design Masterclass: 7th Sea

At least, this little bit was handled successfully in the 2nd edition. Bakers of all nationalities received pre-print versions of the book to comment any strange words or translations they could find in whatever "Thean" language they occurred. So, no more Fauner Pösen as a female name or the...

    Design Masterclass: 7th Sea

In truth, there are no professions, class, whatever in 1st Ed. "Crunshly", Nationality just gave a boost on one of the Attributes, a discount to buy some Advantages that would be more expensive for other nations, and some combat styles (not exclusive to that nation, but cheaper to buy due the...

    Design Masterclass: 7th Sea

I love 1st edition with all its strange rules. As Mr. Peregrine, I "fixed" some of them of my own (use the Traits + Knacks with d10s, but on mechanics very similar to Chronicles of Darkness instead of R&K worked very well). While I hipped for 2nd edition, in my personal experience, the system...
